blue screen only when I exit games

I recently got a Leadtek 6600gt extreme for my dell 4700. I got the new BIOS and drivers and used drivercleaner. All my games work awesome and at sweet resolutions, but when I'm done and try to exit the game I get the blue screen of death. I don't get it, my comp boots up perfect and games run for hours with no problems. But instead of returning to windows when I exit the game it flashes my desktop for a second and then the blue screen which forces me to hold down the power button to shut down. (Ouch!)

Please help! Dell forums revealed nothing!

hrm, which games are these? i think there's a setting you can disable to get rid of this. i'm not altogether sure it's your video card.

6600gt's are notorius about causing these blue screens on Dell computers. Until the A05 BIOS came out for for the 4700 the same screen happens at boot-up. The Blue screen is always the same and has threads about it all over the Dell forums. It says

_________________________________________________
IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL_TO

If this is the first time you have seen this screen restart your computer. If it reoccurs check any newly installed hardware for updates and drivers. etc.

(it keeps going on about hardware and drivers)

It only does it when I'm playing newer games like SC-Pandora Tommorow, HL2, Prince of Persia. it doesn't do it when I play less demanding games like Warcraft 3 or Half Life(1), or C&C generals.

Anybody got any ideas?

Anybody?

NVidia's 71.25 driver fixed my Blue Screen of Death!

We no longer need to fear the Dell 4700/6600gt combo!

Well I've got the same EXACT problem with my 4700/Leadtek 6600GT PCIe, but it ONLY happens when I play Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (which came free with the Leadtek - ironic, no?). Everytime I exit the game I get the BSOD, saying it's dumping physical memory, yada/yada/yada. Hard reboot fixes things up.

Strange, all other games (Far Cry, Doom3, Half Life 2, etc) work (and exit) perfectly. I'm using the 66.93 Forceware, but may try 71.25.

Will keep you advised!

I to get a problem like this only no error is displayed when using the gigabyte 6800. This only happens when I try to exit a game or when I hit apply to change the graphics.

If anyone has any cure to fix this please help!

yes it must be the DEP, it doesnt like Unreal engine based games, mine did this with SC, UT2004 etc

How do you turn off DEP?

Also, to all you frustrated DELL users-

Experiment with different drivers!!! I tried like 8-10 different beta and official drivers before I found one that worked with my 4700/6600gt. Be sure to use driver cleaner everytime!

Thanks for reply, but in case you didn't know Dell uses only Intel CPUs; NO AMD!!! So this fix won't help us unless something else was changed in the drivers.

I am having the same problem now. Before i had a problem where the monitor constantly shuts off or goes on stand by when i play prince of persia, leaving the cpu running normally. It didnt let me do anything but manually reset the pc.

I updated my video card driver to the lastest one and now instead of having that problem, i am getting the blue screen when i exit the game.
The blue screen only shows for a fraction of a second then the computer restart itself.

Is there any solution to this?

Esmute,

If you are having that problem with a A64 (like your sig says) then see my info 4 replys up from here, you are probably getting hit by this A64/XPsp2/BSOD bug in the Nividia drivers.

I hope I'm not the bearer of bad news, but I had to RMA my first Leadtek 6600GT because of this exact problem - in my case any 3D application (games, screensavers, etc) and the monitor would blank out with lots of beeps. Had to unplug PC to restart. Everything in 2D ran great. Played around for several days changing things before calling and getting mine replaced. Second card has had NO problems like this.
