Blue Screen During Install of Vista

Trying to setup a new computer, and we are getting a Blue Screen early on in the install process. Was wondering if someone had seen this before, or had some ideas on what I can try to do to fix it.

Brand new Motherboard (p5B), CPU(4300) and Memory(Corsair 6400), in my old case using the old Nvida 6600GT and Seagate 80gb sata hard drive.

Try to boot up the machine on the Vista CD, tells us it is 'Installing" and we get a black bar that progresses across the bottom of the screen. Then Boom.. Blue screen, with as far as I can tell a fairly vague error.

Any suggestions of stuff to look at?

Can you provide a more specific error message? Remove all hardware except for what is absolutely necessary for installation.

OK, this is what it says.

A Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If ths screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequite disk space. If a driver is identifeid in the stop message, disable the drier or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Technical information:

*** Stop: 0x0000007E (0Xc0000005, 0x850F71D4, 0x852034E0, 0x852031DC)

*** acpi.sys - address 850f71D4 base at 859de000, DateStamp 4549adb7

I want to say the acpi.sys is a new error, could this mean a problem with one of my dvd-rom drives?

Looks like a motherboard issue. Do you have the latest BIOS installed (1405, I believe) for your P5B?

Yes. I installed it last night.

Ugh, my wife is gonna kill me if I have to return the motherboard... LOL This is her computer. 😀

Vista is picky with the hardware (or the hardware makers are lacking behind). I got the msi mb, dual core process, 4 gigs and on board ati video. My vista install went flawless. I feel for those that have nightmares installing vista.

Ok.. I will try to play around with the memory tonight to see if I get anything. It could be possible that I dont have one of them in the right slot.

Could I potentially have this issue if I have my IDE slave/master backwards on my DVD drives? Or would they just not work at all? I don't know for sure if they are, just remembering that my wife put them back in, not sure if she put them in the right order.

Vista is picky about ACPI support. My 2-year-old Toshiba laptop, for instance, HAS no acceptable BIOS updates that provide the ACPI support that Vista wants to see. Hence, no Vista for me on that laptop.

That was the problem I had when I was bluescreening during install. Turns out I wasnt giving the sticks enough voltage. Run memcheck off a bootable CD, or use the memory diagnostics on the Vista CD.

Pretty sure they wouldnt work at all.

How would I run the memory diags on the Vista CD? Or do I need ANOTHER bootable cd and then switch to the Vista cd?

Another Question, if I boot up on a bootable floppy, shouldn't I still be able to see my Hard drive? It is a Sata drive if that matters. The Bios does see it.

Thank you for all the help and suggestions.
