Blue and Red Vertical Lines on a Dell Inspiron 2650 LCD

A few months back my Inspiron 2650 experienced a seriously faded LCD. Not wanting to fiddle with the inside of the laptop (and being out of warranty) I took it to a computer repair shop who diagnosed the problem as a broken flex cable and wanted $300 to fix it! I took the laptop back and indeed the flex cable was completely torn through by the part that sits at the join with the display and the laptop. I have now tried two flex cables I purchased from eBay, and both give the same result: a perfectly fine, working display, with one thin red vertical line and one thin blue vertical line about 1/3 of the way across the screen. Since I've now tried two flex cables, I'm assuming the problem is not there. Is there any way this could be a problem with the inverter and not with the LCD itself? (The shop messed up on the inverter and forgot to reinstall it when they gave me back the laptop the first time, and so when I complained I'm sure they gave me a different inverter.) Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
