Blu Ray Player Sony 570 or LG 570

I need my first Blue Ray player and its between the Sony 570 or the LG 570. The things I would like to have are

1. Which streams Netflix better
2. Which loads faster
3. Which plays MKV files and AVI files from a USB flash stick
4. Which upconverts DVD's better

Any input on this would be great.....

Thanks

I own two Bluray players - both are intro level however LGBD370 and Sammy 1600. At this price range, I would recommend getting a PS3 instead .... I regret not getting a PS3 for my 2nd bluray player.

I believe PS3 can play both MKV and AVI files.

You know I thought about that. But with tax the PS3 is about $320 I can get either the sony 570 or lg 570 for about $220 shipped. That's $100 less. And I know I would never use the PS3 for games it would only be a blu ray player so I think that would be $100 I don't need to spend

At 220 bucks I would not expect either to be truly standout.
Sorry but its true. The fastest players cost around 500 bucks. And I forget the brand name. It was some oddball company I never heard of.
Any unit that streams Netflix will likely do a similar job to all the others. I wouldnt make that the basis for my decision.

According to the web, the sony plays MKV's and AVI's but with lots of pixelation.
The LG player does many file formats and I could not find anyone complaining about pixelation.

Upconverting DVD's is nice but again the specific quality would not be a major point of my purchase decision. I have a blu-ray player and a good DVD player that both upconvert and frankly its nothing to get excited over. Its not nearly as good as a Windows PC with VLC Player where you can choose the desktop resolution, window size, and multiple types of deinterlacing.
In fact with all the concerns you have I would seriously consider getting a Home Theater PC if you can spend the money. It will do everything you need and more.
If you have to go with a basic console player, I usually recommend LG over Sony, for almost everything.
The big factor for me would be load times. If you can find a website that says the Sony is much faster, then I would go for that.

The reason why I recommended the PS3 is because it can unleash more features as new updates become available. For example, in July Sony will release an update for it to be able to play 3D content. The hardware in it has much capability when compared to a regular BD player.

On a side note, I am kind of wondering whats with this BD players takes too long to load complain? Neither of my BD players take too long to load a BD disc. They take a few seconds at best. Is your time so valuable? Then may be you shouldn't be wasting it watching movies. =)

The high end BD player you are talking about is probably Oppo.

A FEW SECONDS?!?!???
😱

I'm gonna have to ask exactly what are you using.

Hmm, I guess I usually stay entertained while a BD loads. I never noticed it ....

It took 18 secs for my LG BD370 to load the Dark Knight disc to display the WB logo.

Then it took 32 secs to load the movie to show the beginning of the film. Both timed using iphone stopwatch.

May be for some it's too long. My DLP projectors unfortunately take about the same to come to full brightness.

It takes the BD-P320 42 seconds just to get to the anti-piracy page on the Dark Knight, though the BD-P320 also has the best PQ I've seen short of the Oppo.

So you had an additional 50 seconds to play with your douchy iPhone - I don't see the problem 😛

you could be like me and have the BDP-S300 which takes a good minute just to turn on. Then another like 40 seconds or so to go from tray open to menu.

What happened to the price of the PS3 slim???? I thought it was $299 everywhere I look its like $369 I can't find one place that has the $299 one..

Just go to BestBuy... they still list it as $299 unlike the other places. The price jump is because inventory is tight. Sony still lists MSRP as $299 for the 120GB slim.

I got a PS3 from craigslist 🙂 $275 brand new. I'm meeting the guy at 12 at frys. Thanks for the craigslist tip 🙂 Oh I also tried costco they are also sold out..

they are in tight supply now. No ones exactly why. Could be a bunch a reasons. 1. they are pulling a Nintendo. 2. They are switching to a different blue tooth vendor or something.

Once thing I noticed is that there is a small electronic shortage in some industries. At my job, vendors are telling us that some of their parts suddenly have a 14 week lead time when they originally quoted me a 1 week leads time.
