Blu-Ray Media

I wasn't sure where exactly this belonged but if a Mod feels it's better in another section please move it.

I have a Panasonic HD video camera and use it for events to make DVDs and Blu-Ray videos for people I know. Not as a business, but as a hobby on the side. I've always had pretty good luck with Verbatim media for when I make Blu-Ray versions of home movies.

Anyhow, I've found Verbatim media harder to find locally and it is more expensive than Memorex branded disks. I've been out of the loop for quite some time with this but is there a difference anymore between brands of optical media? There used to be certain brands that were more reliable in stand alone players. Further, does anyone know why a lot of local places like Best-Buy don't even carry Blu-Ray media and require you to order online? I have no problem ordering through amazon or something, but just today I was in need of one disk and realized I didn't have any on hand. I started looking to see what was available locally and it's pretty thin.

Any thoughts?
