I have a weird issue...my BD-ROM keeps disappearing in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Like itll be working one minute perfectly fine...no problems...then Ill go to watch a movie/install game or what have you and my drive is no longer in My Computer...nor is it in the Device Manager...its like it up and vanished.

It shows up in the BIOS and boot screen fine...the drive itself as I said works fine too. I have 3 hard drives hooked up (everything is SATA) and it doesnt happen to any of them.

Just real aggervating, rebooting the PC works, but again, only for a period of time, which varies from 30 minutes to it appearing for a couple of days before going away...I just dont understand whats going on!

Thanks in advance for any help!

By default, removable drives without media inserted are hidden by Win7. If your problems are occurring with a disc inserted, I'd look at the BD-ROM drive and/or the cable.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I have a Pioneer BDC-S02BK Bluray drive, and it regularly drops off the system.

I'll be in the middle of copying from a disk, and the copy will error out. When I check My Computer, the drive is gone. If I restart, the drive is in the BIOS, and back again under My Computer, until around 30min after I start copying from it again.

I've checked the firmware and it's up to date. I couldn't find any online drivers for it.. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I've sent a query to Pioneer a few days ago but no reply yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Same problem here. I have a Pioneer BD writer and it's doing the same thing. I even get a notification from Intel Matrix Storage Manager that it's been removed. I was having the same problem with another Pioneer DVD drive. I originally thought it was a faulty sata controller on the motherboard but then I switched the motherboard and the same thing happens. Really annoying!

Same problem here guys. System specs below:

Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
RAM: 4GB DDR2
Harddrive: 1TB
Graphics Card: Sparkle Radeon HD4870 1GB (with latest Catalyst 10.8 driver)
Sound Card: Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy 4
Processor: AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core 2.5GHz
Motherboard: ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe
Monitor: HP w2408h (max res. 1920x1200 @ 60Hz)(using DVI to HDMI cable)
BD-Drive: Pioneer BDC-202 Blu-Ray Combidrive SATA

Mine's basically the same as everyone else's here: sometimes the drive works, sometimes it doesn't. Mine depends on the boot, though: I've noticed that when it boots quickly, after fifteen seconds, the BD drive is recognised and works perfectly. Other times it takes twice as long to boot and then the BD drive is not there (not in My Computer, not in Device Manager) but everything else works fine still.

Putting a CD/DVD/BD in doesn't change whether it's detected or not. I've looked at the Pioneer's compatibility list: my mobo is not tested with the BD, but then if it works fine sometimes, why does it not work at other times? SATA error? Requires BIOS update?

Bizarre. If anyone's making progress, update here. Would be glad to sort the issue out. :)

SATA cable power management settings perhaps?

I wish Intel or whomever the chipset mfg is, allowed a way to permanently disable SATA cable power management in the BIOS.

You might try this:

Probably because the drive itself is empty...

There's a setting that controls that in the Folder Options that controls this:

1.) Open Windows Explorer

2.) Press ALT to open the menus - Click Tools | Folder Options

3.) Click the View tab

4.) Look for the item that reads "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder" and UNCHECK it.

5.) Click OK and restart Windows Explorer

You should see your DVD drive on the list.
