blss Windows sockets initialization failed

When I click the S: icon (which has a red line through it) a message appears:

An error occured while reconnecting to S: \\Server\Server Microsoft Window Network: The network location cannot be reached. For information about network troubleshooting see Windows Help.

This connectin has not been restorded.

Also, when I start the computer, a message appears:

blss
Windows sockets initialization failed.

PS. My laptop works fine

this is from my uncle who i set up a server for. s = server drive. I mapped a network drive from the server to their desktop, and their laptop. the desktop gets this error however while the laptop has never gotten this error. what should i tell them to do?

win. XP home desktop, laptop; xp Pro on server
should i have them remap the network drive, by disabling it, then remaping it, or have them reconnect to it?

no i cannot go over there and see everything for myself (3000 miles isnt cheap!)

I'd reloa the tcpip stack and maybe all the winsock stuff... just depends on the OS, but it sound like maybe something if changed or corrupt... You can get similar messages from a corrupt ms proxy client too...

what OS?
