Blown PS or MB?

Hi,

I just installed a new MB in order to get some more mileage out of my athlon xp processor. However, on first bootup, I hear this muffled "whump" after about a second on my first boot attempt. Upon opening the computer case, nothing looks to be out of order, but I can smell that something's burned. Is there anyway to check to see if it is the new motherboard or the power supply? I am puzzled by this as the power supply was working perfectly fine with my old motherboard only a couple of hours before I installed this new one. Also, if the motherboard has died and also killed my PS with it, do manufacturers generally provide compensation for this sort of thing? Thanks for the help, I appreciate any.

I've got an MSI KT3 Ultra2 , doesn't that come with a diagnostic LED panel? If so, hook it up and see what it tells you.
