I think the guy is an idiot, and should have moved out of the way, but like everyone else has said, he probably just got caught up in the moment. Either way, he SHOULDN'T be beat up or harmed in any way, it's just a fvcking game.

actually, something I saw last night, is they put a camera where dude was at, there was no way he could have seen alou coming over there to get the ball... as far as it looked to him, the ball was coming right at him...
also 2 other guys were going for the ball, if he hadnt gotten it they would have...

Sun Times sucks for posting him name/work/etc. I hope his work sues them or something...

I have to agree that nobody cares about the marlins...

Cubs Vs Red Sox .... awesome that both teams made it, someone has to break their curse....

Cubs Vs Yankees.... great rivelry, we can even fight about who has better hot dogs and who has better pizza in the process.

marlins vs anyone ..... yeah... go (insert name of team oposing marlins)

One of the broadcasters for Chi pointed out that on game days for the marlins, they print directions to the stadium... lol

3 things anyone in chicago can tell u where they are... Sears tower, wrigley field, united center

if the cubs win it tonight, nobody will ever care or remember about what that guy did... if the cubs lose, move to floriday buddy

Couple of takes:

1. Cubs choked. Sure the play with the fan seemed to start it all, but the players are supposed to be professional athletes. If you can't regain focus after 1 legal (although disheartening) play, you are choke artists

2. Cubs gave up. After that play, they pretty much just gave up....horrible pitching, horrible fielding, horrible batting......horrible performance

3. Suntimes should NOT have posted that story listing the guys name and where he works, that is RIDICULOUS!

4. The happiest people in the world right now? ---- the other 2 people who reached for the ball but fortunately for them, it was just a little to far away and they couldn't reach it 😉

The guy next to him was not trying for the ball, he was trying to back away.

When you watch the replay, it's clear that he was trying to get the ball. But he may have had a better view and saw Alou trying to make a play and then he tried to back off.

That fan is a dope, but printing his name/info in the paper was wrong. I love that cubs and have been waiting for an opportunity like this for years, but this stuff isn't worth ruining someone's life over.

The cubs have no excuses. If they don't win tonight and take the series, then they will have no one to blame but themselves. I'm madder at the team than I am at some random fan that could have just as easily screwed up a catch for the Marlins as he did for the cubs.

Anyway, that being said, Marlin fans *cough*PlatinumGold*cough* need to quit talking smack in this thread because the Cubs are going to win tonight. 😀

LOL, yea... I just can't believe they printed his name, the town he lives in, his place of work.... it's like they are telling people where to track him down.

ya right.

btw, i'm not talking smack. i said EXACTLY what i meant, the CUBS choked. it was a choke of colossal proportions. they HAD the game won and Prior CHOKED.

the fan was the catalyst, but it was Prior and Gonzalez that screwed up. Prior WALKED the batter.

This is why I think it's ridiculous that Baseball is the ONLY sport where any casual fan can blow a game - fields should be designed around that fact :| Wonder if they'll ever act upon that when designing newer stadiums, they need to leave a buffer zone

Just let outfielders carry bats into the outfield. After a couple of broken hands, fans would learn to not reach into the playing field. Alou would have caught the ball.

LMAO - seriously, don't fvck with the game, goddamnit :|

If the Cubs don't win tonight, The Great Chicago fire of 1871 will become the 2nd greatest disaster in Chicago history.

EDIT: I mean damage to the city

Dang. I was kind of rooting for the cubs for that one guy's sake. Oh well.

edit: Noticed this in an article where the fan apologized.

"The Associated Press had been holding off on naming the man for fear of his safety."

Atleast some people have their priorities straight.
