I got into the beta a while ago, haven't picked it up recently but I thought it was excellent. The game itself is much more intense and exciting than LoL imo, but never tried HoN. I wish it had more of a playerbase though, but I think the balance and gameplay are really exceptional for this style of game.

Just got my key (unsolicited). Installing tonight/tomorrow. This is the first time I have played this type of game so it should be interesting.

Lol same here. It went into my spam, but I pulled it out. I'll let you guys be the guinea pigs before I sign up. :D

I got a email about a beta key last night which I never signed up for, I've been only playing single player and it plays nothing like HoN/LoL, I think it plays more like diablo pvp, also there's no items or leveling, so I think it's more team/skill based.

Sounds all kind of stupid.

I'm almost positive BLC is meant to be played with MP exclusively.

I got my email via Funcom with a key. Activated it on my account, saw nowhere to download it from, saw it had been in Beta for lightyears before they bothered giving me a key and remembered all of the threads about the type of community that this game breeds.... so I gave up before even finding the download button.

The community is really no better or no worse than any other online game, actually my time playing would lead me to say it's slightly better if you avoid the forums.

BLC has the advantage of being very lightweight, balanced game with a couple of different game modes and very clear, informative visuals.

Personally I think the way it handles PVP is the best system yet, at least in spirit; for me my ideal pvp evens the playing field as much as possible and BLC does that in many ways. Everyone chooses from the same set of characters, the maps are symmetrical, characters have enough abilities to require thought but not so many that they're needlessly complex, iirc BLC's abilities are exclusively skill shots, no crits, very limited 'random' mechanics, and the graphics focus on clarity above all else.

I know a lot of people get bored easily by that. Where's the items? Where's the levels? Where's the addons, the talents, the xp, the masteries, the monsters? But I really don't think they add anything to PVP because all they end up doing is skewing the results by increasing the number of variables that are included, whereas I think balanced PVP really strives to create as few variables as possible in an attempt to allow skill to be the not just greatest, but only, influence.

Of course it isn't perfect and perfect probably isnt completely attainable, there will always be lag and computer variety and issues with team composition and other meta factors, but I think BLC is a very admirable attempt at creating a pure PVP experience.

I really need to re-install it already :D

I got a beta invite too, probably because I was a long time AO player. I got an invite for Conan too, but passed that up. Is this game any good? I'm into the WoT beta and wouldn't want to try another beta unless it was worth my time.

Got a beta invite too which I had signed up for at least 6 months ago. I'll give it a shot. From what I've heard, the devs were aiming for BLC matches to last 5-10 minutes whereas your typical DotA/HoN/LoL game can last an average of 30 minutes.

The matches are usually a best of 3/5/7 rounds (depends on game settings) which tend to last a few minutes a piece. However there is a soft time limit on the game to prevent endless run/chasefests and there will be a black fog that slowly starts creeping in from the edge of the map forcing the remaining players to the center to either finish it or die in the fog.

There's a couple of mechanics like that to both keep things even and not too drawn out. Healing can only restore up to 40% of your HP over your current HP so if you drop to half health in a burst, you can only be healed up to 90% of your max HP after that comes to mind. In spite of that though, all characters have a fairly good mix of both offensive and defensive abilities.

coming from HoN, i find the community to be a bit better for sure. there's really no penalty for losing games, so i think that tends to help the rage.

anyway, if anyone wants to friend list me, i'm Wink in game. currently grade 6 (whatever that implies).

Reinstalled, I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed this game especially in comparison to LoL/WoW/other modern PVP. I love their approach to it, to eliminate as many exterior variables as possible to best let the best man/team win.

And so far the community seems pretty good, though small. There's still the ocassional "LOL LOOK AT HOW GOOD I AM AT TROLLING" but that's everywhere anymore, and some trash talking but mostly people are kind of quiet or constructive.

Sounds like fun, I'll install it this weekend. How is the capture the flag variety of game? Sounds like TF type fun.
