Blood moon eclipse on April 15

A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth and moon line up so the Earth's shadow falls on the moon, darkening it.
The one on April 15 will begin at 1:20 a.m. on the East Coast, according to Sky and Telescope magazine.

This eclipse also features an extra astronomical quirk. Mars will appear "as a fiery red 'star' next to the moon. Together red Mars and the red shadow on the moon's face should be a spectacular sight and an incredible photo opportunity," said Byrd.
The only downside to this month's lunar eclipse is that it comes very late at night for most of America.

This is when Yellowstone will finally go up! I kid, I kid.

Great. Gotta get the telescope ready. I'm so disappointed I missed the December 2012 Lunar Eclipse. There's no way I'm missing this one, unless it's cloudy.

Posting in this thread, with respect to Red Squirrel's closed thread, which had ECLIPSE in the thread title. 😀

Im glad I am working tonight. I will have a great view of the moon. Not a single cloud in the sky and it looks huge tonight.

Snow storm here, missing it. I'm guessing it's happening now?

And why is it that whenever I post something that happens to have already been posted at some point it gets locked, but in this case it's my own (first) thread that got locked?

Central time zone... and... IT'S HAPPENING!

I recommend viewing with binoculars if you don't have a telescope.

Just a white moon being slowly eaten by some mystical being from where I am at. It does look amazing though.

A 30% black bite at 8pm taken out of the moon here in breaking bad land.

Maybe we're supposed to be on the moon to see red.

Since it's reddish?
"It's reddish" is not a time. The point of my post was that total lunar eclipses aren't blood moons. A blood moon is the first full moon after a harvest moon. After some searching, it seems people are calling total lunar eclipses blood moons because of some televangelist claiming it's some sort of prophecy despite them happening all the time.
