I always thought 1 drink (ie:12oz beer) per hr was ok to not be anywhere near the .08 dui limit.
then I saw this:

bac-for-men.gif

160 lbs
4 beers (ie: pitcher) in 4 hrs:
.09 - (.01 x 4) = .09 -.04 = .05 BAC, which is impaired driving?! :(

(it's even worse for women at the same weight.)

I've always used the 1beer per hr rule.
YIKE!

These days, after one beer I'd be plowing my car into crowds at a German Christmas market.

I'm out of practice.

Woo hoo! I can drink 6-8 drinks over 4 hours and still be "safe".

I guess it's the only benefit of being heavy.

I see absolutely zero effect after one beer. Two beers in one hour and I'm sure there must be something but I don't notice it. At three beers in one hour I will start to feel a little buzz. So yes the chart seems correct-ish for me. But the per hour reduction, I don't know about that it seems a little low in my experience. According to that I should feel more drinking four beers over two hours that three beers in one hour and I know that isn't right for me.

I'm kinda heavy and (sadly) used to drink heavily. I could probably consume 1 drink and walk straight to the parking lot, not be in any trouble.

Like someone else said, those charts are silly. No one is affected the same way by alcohol. This on top of everyone drives differently, with or without alcohol, some people should not even be driving.

Based on BMI I should be good for roughly 3 drinks in an hour legally.

In reality if I have more then 2 I wouldn't even consider driving a car and I have a zero-tolerance if I'm riding my motorcycle.

Based on BMI, I could probably drink a fifth per hour...but seriously...if you have one drink per hour, (shot of liquor) what the hell do you drink for the other 55-59 minutes?

Simple. You don't drive. Most people who plan on drinking moderately and driving don't slam down shots. They sip drinks very very slowly. Or they have a drink, then have a water or soda before having another drink.
