Blockbuster total access and HD-DVD...

Shawn

Lifer
Anyone know if I can return HD-DVDs to the store even if none of the local blockbusters carry HD-DVDs? Also, how is their HD-DVD selection compared to Netflix? I'm still not sure which one to get. I'll probably rent both HD-DVD and regular DVDs.

You can return to the store but it will take them like 2 months to mail it back to BB. I.E. you wont be able to rent a new disk for like 2 weeks.

I thought you were able to just to into the store and turn it in and it shows up as returned?

That's not true, at least in my area south of DC. Is that your experience or are you just making it up?

The local BB scans the disc back into their system when you return it to the store. Then they just dump it into their outgoing mail. The benefit to you is that BB sends out your queue faster and you get to take a free rental from the store. I chose BB over Netflix due to this. BB has been good about keeping their HD DVD selection up to date as new HD DVDs are released.

Yep, that's my experience as well. It'll mail out the next day, and your queue will clear the following day. Meantime, you got another free rental from the store.

And yes, you can return anything to the store (HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, whatever). They don't keep them there, they just mail them back.

It was my experience...They will scan it same day, but to "dump in outgoing mail" takes more than a week!
I don't rent HD DVDs - no HD equipment.

where did you hear that? When I return dvds to BB, I get a new one before they even recieve the old one.

Either your local BB or local post office sucks then. I've never had a problem with mine.

Don't forget that you can click on Manage/Edit Q -> DVD Problem Report and then select "I returned the DVD through the mail but it has not cleared my queue" and Submit. They'll usually clear that movie out of your queue and send the next selection by the end of the next day.

you should contact somebody at blockbuster about this, since it's clear something has gone wrong in your case.

when you drop it off, it scans into the system as returned so the warehouse ships the next dvd in queue...

I've dropped off a movie at 10:30am at a local store and had one ship out online the same day... Its not dependant on the mail, just when they scan it.

Thanks for the info guys. I signed up for 1 at a time with unlimited per month for $10. Plus I can exchange them for one in the store. I also get one free local rental coupon per month. Seemed like a better deal than Netflix.

Thanks...I know couple guys at that BB, they will gladly scan the disks when I bring them, infront of me. Gonna try it again when I'll be back in Houston...

completely untrue. i return my hd dvds, and i get new movies in store, and my movies will ship from blockbuster online either same day or next day, never later than that.

They should take the HD DVD and you can get something else. Not sure how the HD DVD in store selection will go now that Blockbuster has went Blu-ray.

For those of you who return them to the store do you go in and hand it to them or do you just drop it in the return box?

Also if the next movie in my queue says that there is a wait will they just send out the next available even if it's not next in line?

I've done both. If you want to pick up a free rental, then pick out the new movie and return the online envelope at the front counter with your free selection.
