Blockbuster Online DVD Rental lowers price...again

Depends on where you live. I have a distribution center near me...not too bad (Minneapolis).

I quit Netflix long ago due to slowness...and I had a distribution center in Minneapolis too. Blockbuster is much better so far.

Any idea how to find out where the distribution centers are?
 
i for one just signed up and i live in vegas...been 3 days and still no dvd's...some get it fast...some dont. same with netflix
 
Meh, they really have some room for improvement. My first free month was pretty painful as they 'lost' at least two DVDs that I had sent back. I reported them as problems and they did send the next ones in my queue. They then offered me another month free when I tried to cancel but when I went to accept the offer, there was no $0 offering. Had to go back and forth with them via email before they came through with a free month.

The second month is almost done and I have to say that their turnaround time is a bit better. They did, however, lose one of three DVDs I sent back (all sent at the same time) and sent me "Blazing Saddles" instead of the 2004 "The Stepford Wives". The only reason I think I'll stay with them is the two free rental coupons you get for each month. Well worth it if you have a Blockbuster near you. You can use the online rentals for more obscure stuff and the local rentals for current releases.
 
Also note that the new terms allow you to keep your IN-STORE rentals out as long as you like, when you use the 2 free rental coupons as part of your BBO account!
 
Yeah, i just got the email also. It is only $14.99 a month. But it made it look like it was only for current subscribers. I then went to cancel my membership, and it offered me $13.99/month for 3 months and then the normal price for rentals. I wonder if that means it will charge me $14.99 after 3 months, or $17.99 after three months.

Anyway, the reason I like this deal better is that it gives two free rentals every month. I use it to rent games from the local Blockbuster which cost like $5.49 for a week. Yeah mine is slow, but it is getting a little faster. They said that doubled their distribution centers to 23 by the end of january, so maybe that is why. It is a tossup though I think between netflix and blockbuster. And competition can only make this better for the consumer. I say $12.99 a month, and unlimited rentals from the brick and mortar is Blockbusters next step. 🙂

***EDIT: And a side note. The no late fees for the brick and mortar rentals with the BBO coupons isn't really true. After 7 days of being late, they charge you the full price for the item if they only sell it new, and they charge the used copy price if they sell it as used. You can return the movie then, but you are charged a restocking fee.

And it looks like if you cancel, you get the $13.99 a month for three months offer, and then it reverts to $14.99
 
Hmm.. tempting. I really like Netflix, great selection and they're really fast--anything that's sent out gets received the next day. Wonder if Blockbuster will be as good. I'm in the SF Bay Area--anyone else here have good luck with them? Might be worth it to switch...
 
i usually get my dvds the next day since i live close to a distribution center. i also quit netflix a few months back
 
They are pretty quick for me here in MD. My only beef is that they don't have a big selection like Netflix. Though, like above, I like the 2 free rental for the B&M Blockbuster. That's the only reason why I'm still with Blockbuster.
 
Keeping your instore rentals out for as long as you like may vary at different loacations. Blockbuster B&M supposedly is discontinuing late fees after 1-1-05 with a grace period of sorts, but I have already found out my local store is not going to be participating. There are corporate and also franchise stores, so make sure you know your store's policy beforehand.
 
I just called blockbuster about shipping centers. I live in central IL and they said the wouldn't give me exact location because of security precautions but they did tell me they had a shipping center in IL and one in MO. I think im going to try it out. It will probably be cheaper than the late fees i pay 😉.

How does that work? I signed up at ebates and I see the $10 discount listed there. I already tried the free trial at blockbuster and cancelled so all I did was sign in. How do I apply the $10 discount?

But they have doubled the number of distribution centers and should be 23 by end of January. So there will be 13 more out there. At first their speed of delivery was horrible. While it still isn't the best, it definately has gotten faster. Now the slowest part seems to be the time it takes for them to fill items out of my queue. Even though something says it is available, and I have two queue slots open, they do not always fill the order on the same day. So I think they are marking something as available when they get the scan from the post office, and don't really have it in their hands.

Anyway, all in all the deal is a good one. I am now paying $13.99 for three months with $14.99 a month after that. I get the 3 dvd's out at a time, and two ecoupons that I use for games (that rent for $5.49/week). So this is worth it to me. I will take the turnaround time they offer and live with it for now. The price definately beats out netflix and walmart now.
 
My second (free after attempting to cancel after the first) month with Blockbuster has been horrible, I live 70 miles from a distro center and turnaround is 8+days. Pathetic.
 
I live about an hour north of the Flushing center and somehow it took 3 days for them to recieve my returned dvds and about another 3 days for me to receive my new ones....switched back netflix after my free month was up.
 
How do you get a free month trial? All I see on the signup page is 2 weeks, if their turnaround is slow right now that wouldn't be a good try before you buy it deal to me.
 
i know mine gets mailed to MA. I am in CT. the turn around isnt bad at all... unlike game fly which takes FOREVER. on my 2 game at a time plan i MIGHT get 6 games a month. where by signing up for blockbuster on line i get a whole buncha movies every month, and at least two in store rental coupons which i can use on games a month.... if block buster adds games to online rental they will destroy everyone.

Where do you live in MD? I live literally a few miles from the Netflix distro, so I'm a little biased. 2 day turnaround usually. Blockbuster took 4 days. But if they are doubling centers, might be good now
