Quick question: I'm trying to decide whether to subscribe and was wondering how long it usually takes between when you ship back a DVD and when you receive the next one, assuming you place the next order promptly. Please specify which you subscribe to.
 
Netflix, 1 day each way during the week but they don't process returns Saturday so mailing Friday means I get a new disc Tuesday.

People who watch over 10-12 movies a month get "throttled" and have to wait longer for their next disc. They also don't get first choice of new releases.

At first, I could send a DVD on Monday, they'd receive it on Tuesday, send the next one out on Tuesday, and I'd get it Wednesday or Thursday (rural mail is often slow.)

Now, I send one back on Monday, they receive it on Wednesday, they ship out the next one on Thursday, and I might get it Friday, but usually it's Saturday.

I suppose this is the "throttling" everyone complains about. I'm just gonig to reduce my service down from 3-at-a-time to 2.
 
This throttling thing intrigues me, so when they say "unlimited" what they really mean is "limited" ? assuming you got the highest subscription, which is 5 dvds at once, could you reliably rent 5 dvds at the same time, and when you receive them you instantly mail them back. if it takes the next 5 dvds 3 days to get back to you, could you max out at 50 dvds? or would they throttle you back to like 20 or so?
 
I haven't been throttled for Netflix. THere was a time I thought I was throttled in late may after a month, but then no..

I get 3 DVDs at once and I go through 6 a week at least with Netflix. I went on for 2 months straight until I lost my mail key last week and no throttling.

BB on the other hand kinda throttles.

Return times:
Netflix: Monday morning (all the way till 5pm actually) drop @ Post Office = Netflix receives by Tues = ship out on Tues = receive next DVD by Wed. Easily I can hit 6 DVDs a week, averaging like 15 per 2 weeks.

BB: Monday mail out (before 5pm) = BB receive on Tues = ship out on Tues = receive on Thurs. SOMETIMES (maybe 30 - 40% of time time) I get it on Wed, but usually on Thurs. SO I can only hit 9 DVDs / 2 weeks.

Now I know BB I cycle between their SAC and SF and SJ facilities. When I lived in Cupertino (right next to SJ) it was 1 day transit times, so it was just as fast as Netflix. Oddly enough Netflix is also in SJ and its faster than BB consistently..

If they receive the DVD in the morning (before noon) they'll usually ship out the same day (your next DVDs). If they don,t hten you're probably being throttled. If they do and you're taking a while to get it, then it's just the mail. Read my situation with BB. It takes 2 days after they ship out for me to get it even though it takes them 1 day to get my returns. Maybe I am being throttled.. maybe they label my mail as "slow down and take 2 days to deliver instead of 1"
 
I quit Netflix when they throttled me to the point that I was only getting around 4 movies a month despite being signed up for the 2 at a time deal. That was just some serious BS.

I am now with Blockbuster online and and they seem to have throttling built-in but not at such a drastic level so I can live with it. Plus I have their 3 at a time deal which lets you print out a free rental coupon for a local Blockbuster store 4 times a month(good for new releases too) so that is pretty cool too.

Blockbuster is clearly superior to Netflix if you live near a local Blockbuster store. :thumbsup:
 
Been on netflix for a few months. Usually ship on Day 1, they receive and ship on Day 2, I receive on Day 3. Haven't noticed any slower than that yet, but my throughput has been pretty low so far.
 
I paid for one year of Intelliflix (movies, games & pr0n) and while they have one west coast distribution center (I'm in CA), a majority of my movies come from the east coast. So if you're on the east coast, they might be worth considering. I've yet to receive a game from them, so I'm assuming their library for that is not that big. As far as pr0n goes, it apprears they have quite the selection, but I've yet to order anything from it.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me.
