As I was leaving blockbuster today, one of the employees mentioned a new "Blockbuster Movie Pass" they will offer starting next Tuesday. You pay $24.99/month to have 2 movies out at once or $29.99 for 3. Although this pricing plan is somewhat more expensive then Netflix, you don't have to wait for the movies to ship to the warehouse and then back to your home. You could watch 2 movies one night, and go back the next day for 2 more! No late fees, no due dates.

Sounds like a good deal for all you movie junkies! :D

Is there a limit to the number of movies per day?

Can I borrow 2 movies in the morning, return them at noon, borrow 2 new movies at noon, return 2 movies at 6pm,
then borrow 2 new movies at 6pm, return again at 10pm?

i've been doing this off and on for 6 months in seattle. the problem is that you run out of movies to watch, unless you're into old reruns, and then you have to wait a few months for them to build up enough new inventory to make it worthwhile.

if you want to copy them, this is a dream come true.

you can take out and return as many a day as you want.

My local BB has a very small selection compared to Netflix. I can deal with a 3-day turnaround (putting old movie in the mail until new movie is in my mailbox) that Netflix has, and Netflix' selection really is pretty damn neat.

Yeah...was gonna say. Blockbuster does not have a very big inventory. And the ones by me are moving to P&S instead of widescreen! :| :|

I've been waiting for this in my area because I have a Blockbuster about 1 mile away. But now that I've been on Netflix with the full 8 out at time deal, I've already gotten all of the major movies and now I'm into the more obscure stuff that Blockbuster doesn't carry. I'll check out blockbuster to see if they have enough to justify it, but in all likelihood I'll stick with Netflix.

How do you get 8 out at a time with Netflix?

You could even return in 5 minutes. my blockbuster is literally down the slope. Just walk across the street and its there.
they don't care.

I got the 3 movie pass now and I I know I've probably rented nearly 70 movies already. that's on a 2 movie out. Just changed to 3 movies and I expect even more. BUt yeah I watch old movies.

Sucks though some people don't want to buy the program. Some guy rented like 5 relatively new movies and the clerk was its cheaper if got the program. Guess they think there's some catch to it.

PS2 games, etc are in the games pass...that is $19.99/mo but only 1 game out at a time. However, still a decent deal. Places like gamefly.com charge $25/mo for 2 games out at a time and since their LA, CA based the turnaround mail times can be horrendous (I'm in MN).

Blockbuster absolutely sucks. Poor selection and no widescreen. Screw those losers.

I've been doing it for over a year now. It's been mentioned several times already, btw. Even if you don't watch over 8 movies a month, it would be worth while just for not having to worry about return dates and fees. When I first got the plan I went on some movie binges. Stopping by BB 4 times in 2 days. Now I average twice a week. Usually once on the weekend and once during the week, for the new releases.

D.

PS. Also useful if you wanna try and 'rip' a DVD or two.

I like the fact that you don't have to wait for dvd's in mail. I think I will try for a couple month if they offer it. Good find.

in my area, they started this about 2 weeks ago, I previously had netflix and I am now trying this out. So far, I am more satisfied than I was with netflix.

On a good week, I can get about 6 movies a week, but on average, probably closer to 3 movies. But with BB, I can rent about 10-14 movies a week. I think the greatest thing about BB is the minimal turn around time (5 mins away from my home), and they also open weekends (2 more days to return and rent movies). Further, they close later than the dropoff time for the mail. Usually, when I want to return my DVDs to netflix, I need to bring my DVDs to work, and drop if off down the street before 5pm. (I don't have a closer mail box near my house). Now, I can wait till I get back home from work, then worry about returning and re-renting movies.

PLUS, almost everytime a new good movie comes out in Netflix, it's always out of stock and a long wait for me (2-3 weeks before I can get new releases) My BB usually have tons of the good new releases and I have had no problem getting them.

so I think it's a good deal for ppl who don't care too much about older rare movies or anime, and more interested in new releases.

As someone above said, to get your money's worth you need to rent about 6 movies a month...and with my BB's poor selection after about two months I'd be hard pressed to find anything worth watching.

And at this point you can stop buying the Movie pass, and sign up with NetFlix :D The BB deal is great if you're into new releases.

OK ... I go to Hollywood video and they have 5 day rentals for $.99/all movies
This includes new releases as well.
It is by far the best deal I have ever seen.

That's why I plan on joining for only one month. I'll hit them up hard for that time, and will get my fill of it for a while. I did it before when they had a one a day for 30 days for about $20-$30. I can't remember the amount now, but I came out ahead then, and BB got much more money than they normally would from me (I hardly ever rent from them without a special).
