This seems to be a tragic case all around. I refuse to go along with the knee-jerk reaction that this is because of racism -- we simply don't have any information to base that on at this point. Let the investigation determine the specific facts, but we know it ended up with an (apparently) innocent man getting shot, so it's terrible :(

Lmao you are in denial if you think systemic racism doesnt exist.

What gang? You're insane on this subject, in my humble opinion. Simply disgusting.

I just watched the video. Even if he is asian this is still systemic racism. And you all wonder why black people dont want to fold into white culture.

I don't care what video you watched or what you think you saw -- several media outlets, the chief of police and the guy doing the press conference reported that the officer that fired the shots was Asian American.

Can you explain how this particular incident is evidence of "systemic racism"? Did the cop shoot the man because of his race, and what evidence are you basing that answer on?

You're part of the problem. Stop with the knee-jerk reactions, lets find out the facts.

I'm sure it exists, that doesn't make every case about skin color. Crying wolf only hurts the cause.

Pretty sure this isnt a case of crying wolf. Its funny how the usual suspects always attack the victim if they are actually a criminal and use that as a reason they were killed but then in a case like this they tell people they are crying wolf. You people are so see through.

It's not racism. Black cops have the same bias towards shooting blacks.
The bias is for another reason, and it's a disservice to a real solution to cover up the root cause with a wrong assumption.

He was afraid of him because he was a black man. Yes. Guaranteed. If he pulled me over in my late model bmw he wouldnt be nervous cop.

Waaaa I make jokes about dead black people and get butt hurt when people call me on it.

Remember that time on Anandtech where people were parading around pictures of "Treydead" Martin's dead body in the thread on that shooting?

So, everytime someone from Anandtech calls me racist or tells me I'm disgusting, I just laugh.....because that thats the kind of stuff that's allowed to go on here...so, ain't no skin off my back if someone from this forum wants to accuse me of not keeping a friendly discourse.

Can you point to where I said systemic racism doesn't exist? I'm not aware of any evidence in this case that points to race being a major factor. If there is such information, link it.

This is why much needed reform and re-thinking of the role of police can't get any traction. Jumping to conclusions, ignoring facts, focusing on the wrong cases, focusing on the wrong issues etc all derail the what needs to be done.

Pretty sure? I don't know what happened and I'm definitely not blaming the deceased. I have no idea what happened. Even if this was racism it isn't right to call it racism until that fact is known.

Something bad or wrong happening to black people isn't evidence of racism.

Interesting, you have a crystal ball to know what was going through his head? Do you have any facts to back this idea up, or did you just pull it out of you butt?

Again, this is part of the real problem. We need to use a tragic case like this to gain a better understanding on what needs fixed and how, not jump to stupid conclusions and rage -- that will accomplish nothing.

I didn't do that, you REALLY should stop lumping people together like that.

My facts are based on him sounding like a scared little bitch in the video.

That's funny, I say this all the time when people start talking about "Black Culture" and what we/I value and need to do to fix ourselves/myself. But, people tell me to suck it up and do better and stop whining about being lumped together when one person does something. Funny how that works but in the reverse, I can't do it to the group(s) that did it to me.

Further lumping to justify lumping while complaining about other people lumping.

If you don't think people should lump you in with others why do you do it? Can't you be better than that?

You're calling me racist because I included you in a group of people who like to make racial comments. Hilarious.
This is simple...you're a fucking racist when you make derogatory judgments about others based solely on skin color. And I don't think it's funny one bit.

Whats the "other reason" for the bias?

I gave some ideas in my original post, perhaps you would have read it before replying. But it's all speculation. An investigation and study into the bias would help us sort it out, and I fully support such an effort to reach an accurate conclusion so that we may move forward in addressing the root cause.

Furthermore, I expressed that we can proceed without the reason and work to alter police policy and make it safer than it is today. It'd benefit everyone, but especially those unjustly getting shot / murdered.
