If you haven't been in D3 scene, all forums are raging at how much the game sucks + failed to deliver + real money auction house oriented + flat out boring.

It's interesting how Korea operates over there.

Blizzard's Seoul Offices Raided by Korean FTC Over Diablo III Complaints..Blizzard may have the most successful PC game in history, both in the United States and abroad, but the game's release hasn't been without its share of problems.Blizzard's offices were raided recently by the Korean Fair Trade Commission (FTC) for its refusal to provide a few unhappy Korean customers with refunds. The refunds were demanded by players unhappy with the "always online" requirement of the game. The FTC is required by law to determine whether Blizzard broke Korean law on electronic commerce. The FTC raided Blizzard's offices in Seoul to secure related documents and "other evidence" which it will use to determine whether the publisher broke the law. The action was prompted by "hundreds of complaints".Speaking for the FTC, Kim Hyung-Bae said the company "received many complaints from Diablo 3 users" and confirmed that an investigation was underway with the Korean Times. The agency is looking into whether Blizzard's stipulated conditions for a refund are unfair to its customers. We'll keep you updated on the situation as it develops.

...

Blizzard probed over Diablo 3..The government has launched an investigation into Blizzard Entertainment over allegations that the American computer gamemaker has refused to refund Koreans who purchased its latest real-time role-playing game Diablo 3.The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) said the firm is suspected of having violated the country’s law on electronic commerce and commercial contracts. The FTC said Tuesday that it raided the firm’s Seoul office Monday and secured related documents and other evidence with which it will determine whether Blizzard broke the law.The investigation comes only two weeks after the release of the game, which has sold more than 6.3 million copies worldwide.Larger-than-expected traffic to the online game’s severs made it extremely difficult for its users to access the game, particularly on weekday nights and weekends, according to Blizzard Korea. Some buyers of the game vented frustration over server shutdowns and asked for refunds, but the company refused to do so, citing sales contract terms, which the FTC says is disadvantageous to consumers.Blizzard said it doubled the capacity of servers Friday and pledged to improve services further in order to prevent a recurrence of the problem.Despite the move, major portals have already been receiving messages denouncing Blizzard’s poor service. Hundreds of users have filed formal complaints with the FTC, calling for an investigation by the regulator.“We have received many complaints from Diablo 3 users,” said Kim Hyung-bae, a spokesman for the FTC. He admitted that an investigation into Blizzard is underway, but refused to elaborate.Other FTC officials said the probe is aimed at confirming whether the firm has sold the game based on what they describe as an “unfair” contract so that people cannot receive refunds even if they discover problems with the game. They said they are studying whether the company should be held liable for “ill-preparation” for unexpected traffic. It’s too early to see any results of the probe but some investigators expect the regulator to issue an order mandating Blizzard to provide a full refund to all unhappy customers.Diablo 3, out nearly 12 years after its incredibly successful predecessor Diablo 2, was one of the most anticipated releases in some time both here and abroad.According to game ranking firm Gametrics, Diablo 3 accounted for 16.16 percent of user time at PC rooms within a day of its release. The rate has increased to nearly 40 percent, it said.Users choose one of five classes ㅡ Barbarian, Wizard, Monk, Demon Hunter or Witch Doctor ㅡ to fight the titular demon Diablo in single player quests and can level-up online in a Battle.net multiplayer platform provided by Blizzard. The Diablo series is dubbed a “game of evil,” for its storyline and the fact that it is expected to account for many sleepless nights by avid gamers here.Blizzard is well known for its constant patches and bug-fixes (12-year-old Diablo 2 is still very well maintained and played often), but thwarting constant hackers and illegal programs being slipped into the game is another task for the firm.

And the online is supposedly broken beyond belief. Required patches that can't be downloaded and installed, so even people who want to play online can't.

I always wonder what happens during those raids. Will I be sitting in my cube doing my work when suddenly police come storming in and take all this crap? Is it like a free day of twiddling my thumbs?

I'm impressed.

A dozen people in the US FTC would die from laughing if some gamers wrote them:

"Blizzard won't let me return Diablo even though it's no fun."

It's Korea. Gaming is serious business over there. Seriously.

I don't give a shit about the online requirement since I always have Internet access if I want to play. It would be nice if you could play offline though in case you lose connection or can't get it.

The Blizzard D3 forums are full of fucking bitching, but I do have to wonder, what is the ratio of people bitching to people enjoying the game (i.e. how many people are on the forums posting about how bad the game is, versus how many people are playing it and liking it)? I haven't tallied the posts yet but the last I saw they sold over 6 million copies.

The lowest common denominator enjoys many crappy games,

For established franchises, the fans tend to get riled up when games cater to the lowest common denominator.

The only reason it is online only is because of their Real Money Auction Houses and Activision-Blizzards desire to make large sums of money off of it.

One reason I won't buy D3 is that Blizzard readily admitted that they actively change what items players get in the single player in order to make it so that they can manipulate the market to maximize how much money get off of it by directly controlling supply.

That is disgusting to me.

Like it's a surprise? Try to keep up:

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Diablo-3-Patch-1-0-2-Now-Live-Servers-Down-Maintenance-43003.html

People with brains do not pre-order games, we wait for reviews. Diablo 3 has been a travesty from day 1. It's gone from being broken to being completely fucked to being broken to being unreachable so nobody can see how broken it is.

I'll wait for the idiots who apparently have paid $60 to be alpha testers for blizzard's servers to get the bugs worked out.

No surprise though, every Blizzard launch is like this... It makes you wonder really, because they spend so much time developing their games, and yet at release they are always broken beyond belief

I think whats happening here is they spend so much time on their games that they start losing perspective, so by the time the game is out they dont have the slightest clue what the hell is going with the game, until the masses start playing it with a fresh point of view

I was considering buying it since Im a huge D1/D2 fan, but with all the horror stories out there (the account hacking in particular) I wont touch it until another couple months, if at all

I don't think that's true.

That's not what was said or implied at all, sorry if it was confusing. The AH doesn't have any affect on the literal drop rates of items depending on what's available.

What I said, and what is true, is that with far more players and an increased proliferation of item trade, we have to factor in how many items are being found by players and how quickly a player can gear up by 'sourcing' items from others through trade and the convenience of the gold auction house.

If we say "a player should have X power in Y amount of time through drops" and completely ignore that the time factor can be reduced by simply having access to more drops through trading and the auction house, players would be gearing up far quicker than we've determined they should. It has nothing to do with the auction house per se, but the general ease at which players have access to more items than they would without it and us needing to keep that in mind while balancing drops. It would be rather poorly thought out if we balanced drops completely ignoring all of the ways players can gear up, and trading is certainly one of them.

Obviously everyone wants the best gear possible as quickly as possible, and us attempting to mediate that through design that takes all factors into account is not always going to be a popular notion.
