so the allure of more $ had nothing to do with it?

It was most likely a combination of things. Money of course is an obvious draw for ANY and EVERY company.

Blizzard is entirely too ambitious, which is what I love about them. When they were writing Starcraft 2 they probably realized just how huge and epically long the campaign was going to be, so in the interest of releasing the game before 2012, they broke the launches up by faction and each one gets released separately. That way we get Starcraft 2 sooner, and have more to look forward to. I'm much happier with it being 3 different games each with 30 missions than being 1 game with 10-15 missions per race.

Ahh... hahaha... Nice. Blizzard found a way to stop people from selling their WOW accounts. Suckers. :D

That's most definitely one of the reasons behind this.

Is creating a Battle.net account required to play World of Warcraft?

Currently, creating a Battle.net account and merging World of Warcraft accounts is entirely optional. However, as we continue to build additional functionality into the new Battle.net, we will eventually require all active World of Warcraft accounts to migrate over to Battle.net accounts in order to continue playing. Additionally, all future Blizzard Entertainment games such as StarCraft II and Diablo III will require Battle.net accounts.

Totally. Once it's mandatory, no more transferring accounts. Meh.

The game is at the end of the alpha stage. It's being readied for beta in the upcoming weeks/months. It might be doubtful for a 2009 release, but a beta is highly anticipated within this year.

Okay, how the hell do they have my current mailing address? I haven't logged into Battle.net in years, at least 4 addresses ago.

All hail the new Blizzard DRM. Sorry folks, no more first-sale right for you!
