I wonder if they figure this next generation is going to need to be entertained so badly as to not know how crappy their lives are. I just wonder how the social welfare programs are going to be once boomers and gen x die out and no longer pay the bills for these losers.

E-sports is a weird thing... I love gaming, and I love watching some games on twitch, but I cant stand it when games get turned into e-sports, with the stupid commentary and all that
Like when developers announce new FPS games now, and they put those guys on stage "playing it" while reading a horrible script that consists of a bunch of pseudo military babble

I facepalm so hard... That is not what gaming is about

I've been to BlizzCon and watched the tournaments but it still feels really weird and nerdy to be around the game casts.

Funny that this is coming from a game developer that has nothing to offer for E-sports now except for a dying SC2 scene which hardly anyone cares about, made even more ironic because that was supposed to cater for e-sports from the start.

DOTA 2, LoL, CS:GO envy much?

Blizzard has their own micro transaction laden crap coming, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and their recently announced Overwatch.

E-sports have no business being in the Olympics, being in athletic departments, or even being called 'sports.'

Not with sitting down and clicking/bashing/twirling away at the controls.

If we get to VR and there is the need to physically move to get through the environments,.. sure. Imagine playing Mirror's Edge in a VR type of set up? It would be pretty strenuous.

Wow you are clueless

Problem is it's not a sport. But hey my generation runs the mile and average of a 1m 30s faster than this slothfest

BuyNLaaaaaaarge!!

I would argue otherwise. One of the definitions of "sport" is "diversion; recreation; pleasant pastime." and "Entertainment; fun:"

History of the word makes the physical exertion aspect of it quite recent as in less than 40-50 years.

Your mile run time isn't relevant.

well, esports kinda already is in the olympics.. its called Dreamhack.

but, the issue with videogames is that most of them are team games; and a spectator cannot watch every part of the teamwork, like you can in football, for example.. they can only watch one monitor, one player.

Fighting game tournaments are 1 vs 1. EVO is pretty awesome to watch. But you're right, most e-sports are team games.

true, i enjoy watching quake duels because just watching the POV of one player i can see all of the action. but when i watch CS games i dont know what half the players are doing.

League of Legends and DOTA get plenty of spectators. i really enjoy watching LCS

I love gaming but I never really understood the whole eSports things. Definitely doesn't belong in the Olympics since it requires zero physical ability other than moving a mouse around.

And the agony of getting defeat, I mean getting teabagged, I mean.......

I forget what I mean.

And I never did get Wild Turkey dammit.

1. the olympics are dumb as fuck
2. there are plenty of dumb fucking sports in the olympics
3. video games will probably eventually be an olympic sport

Actually they used to be cool as fuck.

Just what we need, more things degraded to idiocy mode.
