If I was a warcraft fan, I would be pissed. I don't like warcraft though, but I have empathy for all those who do like WoW.

I only liked SC/Diablo from Blizzard. A lot of the diablo team left, and SC was basically just Warhammer 40k on crack. Its not like I can be expecting a good diablo or SC sequal from them anytime soon, as they are too caught up with their Warcraft frenzy.

Kind of hard to be upset with things like this when Stratholme has been burning down for over a year now.

MMORPG's are the lore-killers of a franchise. Hard to be "immersed" when the world is one big "Groundhog Day".

More than that, did World of Warcraft take place about 10 years or so after Warcraft 3.... if so.... then arthas burned it very early in warcraft III and its been burning for a while now.

Remember when Blizzard was a model for all other developers to aspire to?

You mean when they could only make good games (Diablo) by buying out the developers? You mean when they make constant sequels to games (the Warcraft Trilogy) that show little improvements if none? Blizzard is the second most overrated game company ever. Their games are mostly garbage and always will be.

LOL - yeah, I often look at Warcraft I and Warcraft III and think, "Which one am I playing right now?"

It is like the Lord of the Rings publisher rewriting the LoTR trilogy to where saruman kills Frodo and gets the ring (or something) and turns into a new dark lord so they can make a fourth movie.

yes, that would be sweet as hell

Graphically they're much different, of course. But as far as AI and strategy go the series peaked with Warcraft II.

Blizzard's response
Since the announcement of the new race and the lore behind it, we have seen a great deal of commentary and feedback from the players regarding this aspect of the Warcraft franchise. In fact, lore as a topic of discussion has been more prevalent on the forums recently, than in previous months. We take this as a good sign that so many are invested in this topic and we do not wish to disturb some of these long-held appreciations.

We will be addressing such concerns more actively, once we have E3 behind us and can get back to our regular duties of creating the immersive game that you have all come to love. We know many have a lot of unanswered questions regarding this and rest assured, we will address such concerns in the near future. Stay tuned!

:Q

To be totally up-front with you guys, its my bad, straight up. The obvious lore contradiction with Sargeras and his encounter with the eredar was clearly documented in the Warcraft III manual. I wrote those bits about four years ago, and to be totally honest, I simply forgot. Genius, right? With my excitement to get the draenei up to speed and root them more firmly in the setting, I forgot to do my homework and go back over my earlier writing.

Someone accepts responsibility for one?s own mistakes:Q

I don't mean to restart a flamewar, and I've really loved all of Bliz's games at various points in my PC gaming life, but having gotten into Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 lately the degree to which all of the art, setting, style etc. is ripped off from those licenses astounds me. I can't remember clearly but I swear I heard once that Bliz had to settle with Games Workshop over the IP issues. I mean, orks, space marines, and so forth... pretty much both *Craft licenses are basically *Hammer clones. D1/D2 are my alltime Bliz faves. What did somebody say about Bliz only developing Diablo because they bought some developer? I hope that does not bode ill for Diablo 3, although I've heard totally unconfirmed rumors that D3 will be MMO like Wow... YUCK!

I am getting sick of these MMO. For some reason they draw me in, then I waste a lot of time, then I get bored and quit. Then for some reason I come back. A sick endless cycle.

1. MMO released
2. People whine about certain classes being overpowered (in PvP)
3. Company listens to whiners and nerfs said class.
4. If a class in the game still does not suck, go to step 2.
5. MMO now sucks, people play until a new MMO is released then returns to step 1.

Sometimes things do fall through the cracks, mistakes get made and were forced to scramble to come up with clever solutions to continuity errors. (Hakkar, anyone? ). What is that about?

Fixed. Also, Warcraft was originally made as a Warhammer strategy game. Games Workshop, in their infinite wisdom, turned down the idea thinking that it would steal revenue away from their small niche market in tabletop games. Blizzard altered the storyline and the rest, as they say, was history...

GW is now in development of a Warhammer based MMO. Stupid idea, since it's directly competing with WoW. They should have gone with 40K. I think the fluff in that universe is way cooler and a lot more could be done. Not too many sci-fi, bleak universe type MMOs out there.

I've played WoW for a year, never read the story behind it. I'm just a loot whore.
