I don't see why anyone gets excited about any band calling it quits - no one forces you to listen to them. Some people really loved Blink, some couldn't stand them, and some just followed the crowd and started calling them sell-outs when that became the cool thing to do. Kinda like what happened to Green Day - everyone went through their 'Green Day sucks' phase when it became cool to hate them. Difference is that Green Day stayed together through it, and it looks like Blink won't.
Some people hate Metallica, others worship them... some think guys like Toby Keith are ignorant rednecks, some think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread... the list goes on. People should just learn to respect that not everyone has the same tastes, and thats why choice is such a beautiful thing. Personally, I've found something worthwhile in about every genre under the sun. It's amazing how keeping an open mind will help you discover new things...
That aside, anyone who claims that Blink was just a product of the industry or anything like that is just ignorant. There are very few rock-related bands that are slapped together like a boy band. There are definitely some 'me too!' bands out there who just copy the style of a break-through artist, but Blink was not one of them. If you went back and listened through their catalogue, you can hear them evolve as a band, and they definitely have some unique qualities.
These guys were not one-hit wonders... their most popular song might have been Dammit, but their were tons of other good (if not better) songs on their albums. Kinda (again) like Metallica... EVERYBODY knows Enter Sandman. But everybody also knows that wasn't their best song.
Oh, and MichaelD - maybe you should refrain from posting about things you know absolutely nothing about. That was probably the most retarded statement I've read in quite some time, especially coming from someone who had impressed me as someone who usually has something pertinant to contribute. And I read a LOT of retarded statements.
Anyway, enough ranting... I was obviously a Blink fan. I'm glad they're calling it quits, though, because it sounds like they're doing it for the right reasons - to spend time with their families and loved ones. I respect that - they could continue touring and putting out records and making money, but instead of being greedy they're choosing to be with the people they care about.
