Greenpeace flew its 135-foot-long thermal airship over the Bluffdale, UT, data center early Friday morning, carrying the message: "NSA Illegal Spying Below" along with a link steering people to a new web site, StandAgainstSpying.org, which the three groups launched with the support of a separate, diverse coalition of over 20 grassroots advocacy groups and Internet companies. The site grades members of Congress on what they have done, or often not done, to rein in the NSA...

"The public needs to be brought into the Congressional debate around surveillance reform happening right now," EFF Activism Director Rainey Reitman said. "We're flying an airship over the Utah data center, which has come to symbolize the NSA's collect-it-all approach to surveillance, and demanding an end to the mass spying. It's time for bold action in defense of our privacy."

"Our right to privacy is not a partisan issue. It's a human rights issue," said Michael Boldin, executive director and founder of the Tenth Amendment Center. "This coalition gives great hope for the future because it shows that people across the political spectrum can set aside differences to work together for common cause."

Stand against Spying

Go EFF!

Bravo! That's very fucking creative and exactly the way to raise awareness. Although you know damn well the US govt. is about to make that restricted airspace.

Now let's launch some WTO and Glass-Steagall balloons, blimps and other such dirigibles. Pronto.

I imagine they are moving attack helicopters there now. How dare its citizens question government activities.

Doesn't appear to be having the desired effect, with the exception of Reuters none of the other MSM outlets are reporting this event much less mentioning it took place.

Maybe their money would be better spent on prime time advertising spot during "Dancing with the Stars, "The Voice", "American Idol", or similar heavily viewed TV shows.

Russel Brand was talking about the same thing that happened with a protest he was at in London. 50,000 people protesting austerity and corruption and the BBC didn't even mention it. He said it might have been due to marches being a "passe" way of protest. Maybe news organizations only do a story when there is police violence on video tape or it involves terrorists. Maybe that is how people will start protesting if they are continued to be ignored. Pitch forks.

Looking at the photo doesn't seem they were right over the facility but pretty far out.
