I went to the emergency room because I had a piece of fibre glass stuck in my foot. I tried using tweezers but ended up breaking it off to the point that I wasn't able to access it at all. So I went there and was finally being helped by around 8:30 (arrived at 8), then I was moved to a room where I talked to a doctor and told her my issue. I told the doctor that I don?t think it?s a very big issue and that the fibre glass is probably stuck in the epidermis, therefore I should be able to peel it back and access it easily with out too much cutting. Earlier, before going to the hospital, I squeezed the wound so that it would bleed to where the prick was so it would be easy to see. She wasn?t able to see the fibre glass and because she rubbed her finger across the foot, she was convinced she couldn?t do much about it. I began to rub across the wound and was indeed able to feel it.
Nonetheless she x-rayed the foot to see where the piece was because she couldn't see it and I could. The piece easily showed up on the x-ray but because she did and or the guy did such a ****** job (her instructing it?) of x-raying it, it made it appear that the piece was deeply imbedded into the foot when it was obviously not and because of this, it gave the impression it was deeply pushed in. I asked her what she could do about it and or what they would do about it and she told me this ridiculous story about (sadly, it?s probably true) that she would likely have to make a cut that is half an inch deep (you check the x-ray and decide) to remove the piece. Look at the X-ray and if you look directly on, with out any spatial logic added, that would be how far she would have to cut, completely ridiculous and unnecessary.
So I asked them if they could provide tweezers and needle and let me do it my self; she insisted that this wasn't worth it, that I was 'going to keep it' and that either scar tissue would form over it or the body would push it out (highly unlikely and I'll explain why). So she suggests to go to longs and get stuff like peroxide, tweezers etc.. So I go to longs, get the finest tweezers (the ones I had truly sucked) and needle, peroxide and went home. (Pissed cause I have a huge bill now from hospital).
So I arrive home, I've cleaned the wound, I'm beginning to peel back the epidermis, I'm not quite sure where the fibre is but 'lo and behold I get it.
It's fairly small and I was right, it was in fact in the epidermis and was protuding out of the dermis and I knew all along that it was easily accessible.
The Reason why I believed and KNEW that: 1. I wouldn?t come out on it?s own and 2. it couldn?t have been much further than the epidermis, at most the dermis is because I have callous? on my foot. The callous? on my toe have some times become so large, that I?ve literally tunneled inside them with a 1/4(I think) screw driver and felt no pain at all.(Amusing for me) It would have been hard for fibre glass to go much further than this since it was a fairly small piece and there was no reason for it to do so. With such a thick callous? on my foot, there is no way it would have come out and there was a 100% chance of the callous? growing over it, therefore causing continuous discomfort and accomplishing nothing.
Man this day sucked.

And if you're going to flame me, don't. There is no point, I thought for once I should go to the doctor like a good boy and get it fixed since not only could I not do it, but maybe they had a better proceedure, well they certainly do, collect a tab, tell you there is no heop and live with it, send you on your way. It just feels like while doctors like to help people, they don't seem to want to bring people back to 100%, always gotta have that reminder or some crap.

Update: I got the bill from the hospital today, it was $1,100!! Thankfully I have medical insurance.
