cliffs:

Saw a podiatrist for my tendinitis on 10/15ish before leaving the country for 3.5 weeks.
Told the receptionist that I'd make a follow up appointment when I got back.
They claim that I made the appointment for 11/06
They claim that they called me and rescheduled the appointment for 11/13
I didn't actually get back into the country till 11/12.
who the fuck did they "talk" to
They're trying to charge me a $75 missed appointment fee and are claiming that they'll send it to collections if I don't pay.
Told them to provide me proof of me making an appointment and proof that they talked to me to reschedule it.

I've still got my boarding passes which is "proof" that I wasn't even in the fucking country

Update (02/07/2011):
Sorry for the late update.
So I get to the office on Friday with my paperwork. Of course, the office manager isn't there. Talked to the other staff member and she basically starts ranting along with me. She can't stand the office manager either. She also let me know that the office manager is the wife of the doctor. Also gave me her cell phone # if I needed any help. She told me not to call on the office phone because apparently the office manager/doctor have the office phone tied into their home phone (they can monitor calls)

I gave her a copy of my itinerary and a copy of my return ticket stub. The office worker told me to call tomorrow (saturday) at 10AM. I call Saturday morning and get the office worker. Ask to speak to the office manager and get the usual answer of "Sorry she's not in today, I'll have her call you back." I then identified myself and she said "oh hi! Hold one second, let me get her for you." She came back in a few minutes and said that the office manager would call me back.

About 5 minutes before closing, the bitch finally calls. I tell her that I hope that what I've provided will be enough to take care of this nonsense. She tells me well the itinerary does show I was out of the country but she did talk to me on Nov 6th. I told her I can show her the stamps on my passport showing I wasn't in the country during this time. The dumb fuck still couldn't admit she was wrong. In the end, she goes we'll go ahead and waive the no show fee this one time as a courtesy to which my response was, "I'll make sure and let APWU and Blue Cross/Blue Shield know that they should probably audit any charges from your office since you guys obviously have no problems lying your asses off just to make a quick buck."

Sent off an email to BC/BS and spoke with a rep from APWU this morning. If they do anything, good for them, if not, meh.

they may of automatically made you one for 2 weeks later. however still not your fault and id raise holy hell

OT: Are podiatrists real doctors or are they like chiropracters?
Hell of a lot better than my local e.r. doc. Broke a stick off in my foot, e.r. doc gave me some antibiotics and said," Go see your orthopedic." WTF? My podiatrist saw me within 15min of my call and took the stick out pronto.

OP how's the tendinitis?

Advice: Don't see a podiatrist. From my own personal experience, its much better to see a orthopedic foot specialist. The only reason I'd see a podiatrist is to get some orthotics. Plantar faciatis in my case.

It's a lot better but still a tiny bit painful. Instead of putting my foot in a cast, he put me on these anti inflammatory drugs for a month which helped.

I'm still waiting for the office manager to call me back. I had told the receptionist that since it's the office manager that's claiming that I setup this appointment and rescheduled, I'd prefer speaking to her since it's not the receptionist's fault (at least I'm assuming it isn't).

Podiatrists still go through a medical school much the same as dentists. It's just not the same as the conventional medical school that a typical MD would follow. It's much more focused on the lower leg, ankle and foot. They still have to take the MCAT.

Find a new doctor, and have their office call that one for your records.

This is awful advice.

See a good doctor. If it happens to be a foot issue, that could be a DPM podiatrist or DO or MD orthopedist.

OP, your complaint has nothing to do with the doctor. It has everything to do with the doctor's clerical staff. You should let the doctor know their staff is dropping the ball.

Already wrote out a letter detailing the events. Also letting him know that even though I felt he was an excellent doctor (the doc was excellent. Very friendly and did help my foot) that I will not be coming back to him and I would recommend against anyone else using him because of his office staff.

My wife normally handles these sort of things and she told me that when she spoke with the office manager this morning, the lady would not listen at all and towards the end of the phone call, told my wife "this conversation is over, you will pay the $75.00" and hung up on my wife. That's what pissed the holy hell outta me.

If you can't resolve it and don't pay, make sure they don't file it on your credit.

That is so rude. You really need to raise a fuss about this. No one should talk to someone like that when an issue arises.

Update: Well these jack holes sent another bill for the same amount. I've been calling them every 3rd day or so asking to speak to their so called office manager. Finally got a call back today. She claims she called my house on 11/06/2010 and spoke with me cause I missed my "appointment" for that day. She claims that I rescheduled it for the following Saturday which I "missed" as well. I let her know that I don't know who she spoke with but that I can only guarantee that it wasn't me. I was in India (other side of the fucking planet) from Oct to Nov. She adamantly refused to even admit that it's possible she might have made a mistake. Fucking retard. I'll be taking a copy of my ticket stubs and a snippet from my credit card bill showing I spent money in a restaurant in New Delhi on 11/10/2010 tomorrow. Even told the bitch I easily have more than $75 left in my FSA for 2010 but I'd rather see the government take it than those greedy lying sacks of shit (minus the cursing of course 😀 )

fuck them, why are you jumping through hoops to prove you were in india?

They're saying they'll send it to collections otherwise. My response to that was I'll be seeing you in court if you do that. I have ticket stubs and credit card charges showing I was in India, you just have your word of mouth. I wonder who'd win (knowing my luck, probably them )

File a complaint with the state medical board as well, if you can't get it resolved. Also, do you have a copy of your call logs and/or voicemail which might detail whether they even called you?

so they don't call in a collection agency and possibly eventually ding up his credit score.

OP: i expect you to update this thread with how it works out tomorrow. i am very interested in the outcome. please don't syringer us.

Don't worry, I'll be updating it 🙂 And I'll make sure and let the BBB and the VA State medical board know as well.

If she doesn't listen to you, make sure the entire office full of people hear what is going on. Sadly, courtesy gets nowhere with morons like her.
