Blazzing hot WD 160G for $21.90 YMMV

Western Digital 160G (Mfr# WD1600JBRTL) at Circuit City for 199.99.

Their is a 70.00 (original UPC)rebate

and a 30.00 (copy UPC)rebate

So : 199.99 - 70 -30 =99.00

Then CALL Circuit City and have them price match it to Sams Club 129.99 price

They will give you 110% of difference. = 78.09

So:

99.99 - 78.90 +free shipping = 21.09

How's that for a 1st post.

Let the anandtech effect begin!

Link for CC drive
$70 rebate
$30 rebate
Sams Club link

here's a possible rejection you get

Sams Club requires a membership.

or there(circuit city) after rebate price is cheaper than Sams.

Apparently the corporate policy is you compare the prices after rebate with the competitor's price, and if CC's is lower, you don't get the match.

Circuit city does not match wholesale store prices

They would match only retail store prices

So its a big YMMV !

yeah, CC will price match after the rebate price, but they won't match someone elses rebates.

but the trick is, to buy it, then go back to the store and not say anything about their rebates or anything and just say that you paid $200, and sams is $130

This is all totally YMMV. I've done it 4 times - twice last month when they had the same deal, and twice more this week. Three times they asked to see proof and accepted a printout of the Sams Club web page. The fourth time the CSR took me at my word and called to verify in-stock. HOWEVER, a buddy of mine went in the next day with a copy of my receipt and the web page and they still turned him down flat. Luck of the draw, I guess.

the problem for me is that samsclub's website does not show the hard drive anymore.

can anyone find the link to the drive. i could not find it at all

EDIT: Scratch that, it is back on sams club website again. Let the AT and FW effect commence

I went to the first CC store and got shot down because they dont PM to sams. I went to a second store and they pulled up samsclub webpage and saw the drive, then did a %100 pm instead of %110 since sams requires an enrollment fee.
Very YMMV, but i did get a 200gig in a 160 packaging for $129+tax and can mail in the rebates.

BTW, if they see the 'Caviar' trademark on the website, if you are looking at the plastic see through box of the drive, it does say caviar on the drive itself.

*edit* calling CC first doesnt help much, I called the first CC and got a guy who said 'sams? sure no prob' but when i got there, another salesperson informed him of his 'mistake'.

HUGE YMMV

worked for me on a 120gb few months back. Got a 120gb WD for -$25, yup thats right, I got paid $25 to take their drive.

I got this to work last time (PM CC to Sam's club) in Washington DC area. But it took 3 different stores & finally worked in the CC in Tyson's corner. I took with me the print out from Sam's club website. I still think it is worth the try because of the amount. Good luck to anyone who wants to try this.

I tried a few weeks ago. Bought it online, went in for store pickup, showed her the Sam's price. She looked up something on the computer, said this price is below their cost, so she can't do it. I pointed at the price match policy on the wall, and she said not in this case. I asked for a copy of the policy, she said there it is on the wall. She played hardcore with me and I ended up just getting a refund.

You have to just buy the CC hard drive and then CALL. If they tell you their price is cheaper after rebates say. "SO WHAT!, with Sams club I don't have to file any rebates." This is YMMV but you have to be persistant.

the other thing you can try is purchasing it for instore pickup b/c rebates dont print out with the receipt. i was able to steal a sony widescreen lcd for $240 this way 🙂

i got the standard company line when i asked for the pricematch. CSR said that Sam's was a wholesaler and they don't pricematch to those types of stores. the CSR also said that their AR price was lower than Sam's. i didn't want to get into an argument so i didn't push it. i'll go back this weekend and try again with a different CSR.

did u try the cc in rockville, md or gaithersburg?

Worked for me this afternoon in Indianapolis - Castleton. No 200GB drive, but 110% PM. Initially refused, but I pointed to the big price match sign behind him which didn't describe any limitations on clubs.

This is how I got the deal to work. I ordered the drive and specified in-store pickup. I printed out the confirmation e-mail, but only the first page which shows the price I paid but did not show the rebates that are available. I took this in to the store along with a printout from the Sam's website showing the $129 price. I asked them if they would pricematch, if not I'd just cancel my order and buy it from Sam's. They said it would have to be the in store price and Sam's must have it in stock. He called and sure enough the price was the same and in stock. Got the price adjusted on my order and out the door I went.

the cc i work at matches wholesale prices... although i think its kind of foolish seeing how wholesale stores require a monthly membership fee...

i just went to the circuit city in laguna hills, ca and they won't price match it because i had to bring in the paper ad. they won't accept my printout from the sam's club website

Eminem2k1: "did u try the cc in rockville, md or gaithersburg?"

I got one this afternoon at the CC in Rockville. They also verified that the Gaithersburg store had just received two in Friday's shipment and those units should be on the floor Sat. Neither had any problem PMing Sam's. I took my unit out the door for $128.96 before rebates and they confirmed that the rebates remain valid with the PM.

This is very hot!
