Just got the morning newspaper and they got a pretty darn good deal for combo's.
1.2 ghz duron + ECS K7S5A = $99
Athlon XP 1800+ with EPOX 8KHA+ = 199

I think Ill go and pick up the athlon combo. Cheapest price on the net for the cpu is 137 and the board costs another 99.
This was in the Bay area Fry's Ad.

The EPOX/1800+ combo is good at the Portland, ORegon Fry's as well.

PDX also offers 256MB of PC2700 DDR ram for $69.95. Brand is not mentioned.

If you ask me, though, the most screaming deal offered is the DVD of Shaquille O-Neal's All Star Comedy Roast for a mere $12.99 (a bargain at ten times the price). Now if they only had Kazaam.

Checked Outpost. They don't seem to have it. Oh, well. It looks like an excellent deal on Duron combo for those who are near Fry's.

Damn! That epox/xp1800 deal might just be worth a drive down from Seattle. That combo on Newegg is $50 more. Anyone know if the proc is oem or boxed?

The cpu's for both computers are bare (I guess that means OEM). But nevertheless, it still is a good deal.

the processor and mobo . CDR drive have only 15 days to return or exchange. The OEM, BARE CPU has 1 yr fry's warrenty. but if u fry the cpy or crack it, they won't cover it and I have a cracked 1GH Duron sitting next to me now and waiting for my friend from AccessMicro to send me a cheap XP1600. Oh yeah, what want to buy the dead 1GH Duron? :)
and guys, before u install the new AMD combo, make sure ur powersupply is good enough for it. and install the HSF IN THE RIGHT WAY. by the way, what is a cheap good quiet socketA HSF? I need some recommandation since I pick up a 6 dollars Vocanlo 5 last week from fry's. The DDR memory from Fry's are

If the deal is available at all fry's this should definitely be bumped a few more times...

just last week i picked up thw 950 duron with ECS K7S5A for 99 bucks and i thought it was a decent deal... for a 1.2ghz this is absolutely amazing!

We are screwed again in Phoenix, AZ! Todays fry's add did not have the duron combo deal nor did we have that deal prior weeks. What kind of backwards company has different sales in different areas? and how about having new sales 3 times a week instead of once a week like normal stores. Maybe it will be in the saturday sale, most likely it won't just like it wasn't in the past.

I used a Volcano 5 with my K7S5A/950 MHz system and it seems to work just fine. AMD, BTW, has an excellent illustrated "How To" guide for installing CPUs and the Heatsink/Fan. Check out amd.com.
