Blank screen with a Gateway XHD3000

I've owned said monitor for almost 3 years and its been rather awesome. That said, I've always experienced a random 1 second screen blanking, but i never thought much of it since the monitor always continued to performed. Recently this 1 second screen blanking has turned into prolonged outages. When this happens the panel goes dark, with the black light on. Nothing shows up, not even the onscreen display menu or idle Gateway logo. I've hooked up my PS2 to the panel as well and nothing. If I power down the panel and walk away for like 45 minutes to an hour and come back everything is fine. At first the panel would be good for like 24 hours till the next black out, but now this period is down to like 6-8 hours. Is this a sign of my panel dying? Are there any hopes of saving it? The XHD3000 does have a history of problems, but this specific issue doesn't match the others I've read about. Any advice would be appreciated.

Komrade!!!

Are you comfortable with opening this thing up and looking inside? Chances are that some capacitors in the power supply have taken a dump. I'd estimate about $10 in parts and some time slinging solder.

How's that TV coming KGB?

😛

Funny you should mention that... I was gonna start a thread back home.

MY WORKBENCH IS CLEARED OFF!!! :fap:

I will be starting back in on the TV this week. 😛

Yeah...how long have you been telling us that?

Did you ever find a man to lift it for you? 😛

Does it fail when hooked to PS2?

Well, technically no. But that's due to the fact that i almost never use the PS2 (I've been half way through God of War for about a year now). I originally only used the console as an alternative signal source to test connectivity. Initially i was hoping the problem was stemming for a bad cable or faulty graphics card and not the panel itself. Update, the blacking out has become less predicable. The monitor at times can stay active for hours or mere minutes now.

Are you gonna pull the rear cover and look inside?

Then use the ps2 for a while just to test the screen. If it does not fail then start checking your cable and connections to PC, video card seating/cooling, current vid card drivers, etc.

Any luck on the issue?

Hey Everybody -

I have the same monitor - and the issue has suddenly appeared for me. I was using my PS3 via HDMI, and the screen cut out; although the backlighting was obviously still on, as described above. I switched over to my DVI input, same issue there. (also, the menu and start up screen wouldn't show up, so it seems completely independent of input). I powered off and on several times to no avail (although the sound was still working from the sound bar, proving that the issue is isolated to the display). I left it alone for five minutes, powered back on, it worked perfectly again. then 5 minutes later, it did the same thing. Now its been about 20 minutes, and it's still not working. HELP!!!!

I am comfortable with breaking this bad boy open, and soldering, and getting $10 worth of parts. Tell me what to do good sirs (possibly madams? but i doubt it) thank you!!! I am having Battlefield 3 withdrawals already so respond ASAP for my undying love and gratitude

I followed YouTube instructions how to take the whole sucker apart. I've narrowed the issue down to the same Logic board that causes the green lines / strobing / etc issue found in many other XHD3000's . Part number: LTM300M1C8LV3.2 . But, I have no idea how to even approach fixing it. I would try to "reflow" the Altera chip, but I am nervous because I don't have the proper tools (i.e. heat gun, IR thermometer, etc), PLUS i am not convinced that this would even help since this is a seperate issue.... And ordering a new one costs $140ish on ebay, and $80ish from China (although there are chinese auction sites listing this at 200 Yuan- which is about $35 - they won't ship to a US customer though.)

HELP ME! PLEEEAAASSEEEE! Thanks!
