Hi,

I have an issue that seems to be pretty common in Vista unfortunately, specifically when waking from sleep mode all I get is black screen. This is whether I power down/up from keyboard or remote or mouse. I hear it power up and everything but that's it. Sleeping works great, fans power down and everything.

Here are my specifications:
Vista x32 (all updated, fresh install)
P5E-VM HDMI (0405 latest BIOS)
HIS ATI 2600xt running component out to my LCD TV (Catalyst 8.1 drivers)
e8400 (not overclocked)
Antec Earthwatts 380w PSU

Here are the things I have tried (separately and in combination with each other):

1. Set the ATI External Event service from Automatic to Manual (essentially shutting it off)
2. Set in the the BIOS to enable VGA BIOS post (or whatever that is called)
3. Set in BIOS for the order of the video cards to be PCI/PEG
4. Tried various sleep modes, S3, S4, S3+4 hybrid all producing same result.
5. Tried the MCE Standby Tool (the latest Beta with updates for Vista)
6. Tried Catalyst drivers 7.10-8.1
7. Downgraded to older BIOS (0301)
8. Tried virtually every update/hotfix from MS related to sleep issues
8. Tech support suggested running ACPI utility (didn't work)
9. Now Tech support is claiming my PS is not enough (380w Antec Earthwatts, powering e8400 that is not overclocked, 2 HD's, 1 Optical, 2600xt). I STRONGLY disagree with this but am wondering if its worth trying. He suggested a 500W PS at MINIMUM which I find ridiculous

Am I missing anything else? Is it just Vista? Will SP1 fix this? I tried SP1 RC1 and it didn't fix it so I'm doubtful. Personally I think its an issue with this MB/BIOS + e8400/vista

ANY help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have the same problem on the Maximus Formula. I have the latest BIOS, but agree it's probably a BIOS issue. I set the Vista power setting to maximum and don't let it or put it in sleep mode. Hopefully they'll fix it in the next release.

Try this:

1. Uncheck "Allow this device to wake the computer" in the Device Manager for all your mice, keyboards, game controllers. Also, disable "Wake from LAN" - you might have to play with the driver settings in the Device Manager.

2. Change the jumper settings on your motherboards for all the USB and PS2 ports from +5V to +5VSB (very important!).

Hope this helps.

It's not ridiculous - 380W PSU might not be enough. There is a LOT of power required on startup, with all the devices powering up at once.

But try the fix mentioned in my previous post first.

So... have you guys tried the +5VSB fix...?

Just wondering if it really works for others...
