Just put together a system last night consisting of an AMD 1.2G/266FSB on an Iwill KA266 mobo with 128M PC1600, Maxtor 40.9G ATA100/7200, Mitsumi 1.44 floppy, Aopen 16x DVD ROM, and Leadtek Nvidia2-GTS 32M DDR video driver all in an Inwin 300W case.

On power up, nothing on the monitor (17" Mitsu). I have rechecked all jumpers (set to 100 FSB, and Auto mulitplier as per default setup); installed RAM in other DIMM, checked and rechecked Leadtek board. Nothing. Power comes on, HSF spins, fan on Leadtek spins with both led's lit, but not red error one, and the case speaker makes no sound what so ever. If I go into the monitor menu for Power Save, it says no video signal!!?? Could this be a bad video card, even though onboard led's are on? I can't try it in my other computer as it doesn't have an AGP slot.

Any suggestions as to next steps would be greatly appreciated as I'm about to give a big G worth of equipment the boot.

Thanx much,
David

Hey, I've been there a few times. The first thing I'd try to do is disconnect all my drives and pull out all non-essential cards. IE: only have 1 stick of ram, the CPU and the Video card installed (Remove all HD and Floppy Cables and power cords). power up with only the power cable, video cable and keyboard connected. Also, clear the cmos before doing this. 9 times out of 10 this works for me. Sometimes its as simple as the floppy drive cable being reversed. othertimes I think maybe a card wasn't seated all the way. But usually the bare minimum works. And if it does, then connect the other things one at a time.

Hopefully this helped!

Shippy - thanx for the ideas. I unplugged everything, reset the cmos, but still nothing. When I hit the power up button, my monitor does get something (power signal?) because it makes its usual wake up from sleep/save mode noise, but then the power save window is shown with the error message stating no video signal, H = off, V = off, and to check the connections (which I have done a zillion times now).

What next - anybody????

Discouraged,

d2gallagher,
I think your problem has to with the ram and using Auto multiplier.. PC1600 is 100mhz ram and your multiplier should be adjusted accordingly. Default has your multiplier at 9x133. With the current ram you have you need the multiplier at 12x100. If your processor can't be unlocked to get it to 12x100 you'll need to dump that PC1600 ram for either PC2100 which is 133 mhz ram or some good 133mhz ram so you can run the default multiplier.

Hawkeye - Thanx for the input. The KA266 mobo has a jumper "CPU FSB & Memory Speed Setting" which is set for "CPU 100/100 MHz". The manual states that the KA266 only supports synchronous CPU & Memory speed, and thus this should set the system to 200 FSB and with the auto multiplier create a 12x100 setting and set the RAM to 100 (PC1600), I believe???

Gallagher,

Have you tried re-seating your CPU & video card?
Be careful getting your HSF on and off!

Tried multiple times reseating the video card - it is fully seated in the AGP slot. The T-bird CPU went into the Socket A mount perfectly. The HSF was installed correctly with Artic Silver II. Thanx for the reply!

I have the same problem, just finished putting a system together with a KA266 2.3GHz Matrox G450 and pc2100. Nothing shows up on my monitor and no beeping sound from the speaker. I checked all the connections replugged things and still nothing. I won't be able to check the video card on another pc until Monday, but everything is doing the same on my systems as on your system, Fans work, green led light on motherboard in on, and p/s is new 350w supply.

If it's the motherboard I would be interested in how to deal with a vendor to get a replacement.

Best,

Reseat the ram and try another slot for it. Also reseat the CPU, I cant count how many times I have had to do this.
