...they finally succeeded. Today marks another milestone in the fall of the American nation. The rich have made China the biggest goods trader in the world, taking the crown held by America for 3/4 of a century.

Thank Bill Clinton for NAFTA.

I also heard for the first time in history, more than half of Congress are millionaires.

If you want to know why we're being screwed you need to look beyond party and partisan politics.

How about if you adjust for inflation?

Blame the rich? How about blame every person who votes with their wallet and buys the cheapest, most disposable shit they can find that almost always is manufactured in China.

It's not their fault. They were forced to buy the made in China stuff by the rich. They hired Dikembe Mutombo to go by and slap the Made in America products out of your hand when you picked them up off the shelf. No No No

How does an agreement to boost trade in N America increase Chinese exports? And how do conservatives blame liberals for a measure their reps overwhelmingly supported at the time while liberals' did not?

I don't like the tone of that site, btw. It was just the first google that gave the totals.

Generally speaking, congress critters have always been affluent. It's how they can afford to campaign rather than work to get elected in the first place. Being a millionaire isn't exactly what it used to be, either. I would expect a highly successful professional to be a millionaire at 56-63, the average age of congress critters.

It's not about Party, but rather ideology. The ideology of supply side economics, financialized & deregulated free trade free market capitalism, has held sway for 30 years. The more we adhere to that ideology, the more we'll achieve more of the same results. Where do the Parties and their sub groups align wrt that?

First, invest over there instead of over here, offshore entire industries. Next, blame the victims for buying your cheap offshored production as if they really have a choice. Because you can. Because you own. Because some of them are dumb enough to believe your spiel.

You must be a kid.

I grew up in the 80's and believe me it took a LONG time for goods to slowly shift out of America and into Asia. The public had loads of opportunity to pay extra for high quality. The vast majority chose cheap & inferior.

We did this to ourselves. Also we tax the shit out of corporations and then get mad when they hire illegals and send work across the border.

NAFTA was the first pact that made offshoring jobs economically feasible.

A Republican president could've never passed it but since a Democrat was in office it wasn't opposed like it should have been.

If you want to know why the middle class isnt prospering and why wages are stagnating you need to look at where all the jobs went.

Its above the rate of inflation at around a 4% increase over the year reported. I believe that since they were required to report by May 2013 this is referring to 2012 changes compared to 2011 so its about double the rate of CPI inflation for that time frame of around 2%

That said, given the $175k/year salary and how well the stock market did I am not all that surprised. I'll bet we see an even bigger increase once the 2013 numbers come out

So nafta isn't responsible for the urine in my Wheaties?

I always thought too much was put into a deal that really had limited effects on the national economy. The places it affected more were border towns initially from a labor perspective.

The automotive parts business has been impacted with lower prices for the consumer as well as less profits for the delcos and Napas and the rest but overall that industry is growing.

What I remember Nafta being good at is getting a ton of cheap mexican knock offs off the streets. Back in the 80s when I was in San Diego you could get the best knock off shit ever!

OMG, here we have someone who believe "the rich" owes him a better life!

You know what country has been the center of commerce in the world for the majority of the past two millennia?

OH NOES! America is not the best AT EVERYTHING! BLAME THE RICH! BLAME THE RICH!

Let's also point to the obvious, that China has 4x the population of the U.S., it is expected they show up high on measurements which, the higher the population, the higher the measurement should be.

No blame our elected officials who continually sign off on trade deals that DO NOT HELP US in any way. Honestly name one that has helped the US. We should all whether you are Conservative, Liberal, Independent or anything else watch the TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership) details have been kept secret and part of the agreement is not to talk about it. I understand when tons of people are involved in a decision discussing every bit would never accomplish anything however given our track record with trade agreements I want public review of any more before they are enacted.

bshole is just spouting off his usual nonsense. Remember, he already told us that his income alone is over $100K a year and he has over $400K in an IRA. Then you add what his wife makes. That puts him in the 5%. He IS the very thing he despises and has declared his enemy. He doesn't even realize that if all the wet-dream policies he believes in were put into place the multi-million dollar company he works for probably wouldn't even exist, and if it did it probably wouldn't have expanded to where it is now to allow for his position. He would be making $30,000 a year, his wife wouldn't be allowed to work, he would be paying 40% income tax on that with no deductions, and anything left after that gets a 40% sales tax when he spends it.
