Ok, I'll give you a cookie. Since it is the Republicans that are in control of both Congress, the Senate and the White House odds are the bill will pass. Bush could always veto it right? Right.

Links specific posts in which Bush is criticized for bringing back a draft please. I wasn't aware that any draft was in effect....

You're both out to lunch. Of all the things I've heard Bush criticized over, the "proposed" draft isn't one of them.

And it ain't gonna happen. For about the eleventy billionth time.

It was a "cookie".

I have no idea what "cookie" means in this context, but whatever.

And Burger, just to be thoroughly truthful, the most recent advocate of a draft was Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb.

If the US is going to maintain current Iraqi troop levels for an extended period, the draft might be imminent. Unless the Pro-War crowd start signing up. ;)

Youngsters flatter themselves that the Army wants them so badly.

We have an all-volunteer professional army, that is so far ahead of every other army on the planet, that they are like the alien invaders in a 1950's sci-fi movie.

Having said that, I believe the bill, which was floated by the leftmost people in the democratic party, calls for national service, with a civillian alternative to military service. Think CCC. (google CCC and Great Depression

I think it would do our country some good, if the current generation of cynics and complainers got off their collective asses and DID something for the country they enjoy verbally trashing so much.

Well said!

From what I've read neither the Army or the Marine corps are having any trouble recruiting as much as they need. A true draft is not needed, at least not now. Something like the CCC would be much more benificial.

Clinton brought back a CCC program for younger adults. It was a dud like the original.

There is no draft, dumb ass (I'm sick of little babies coming on and complaining about the draft, as if it's going to be reinstated. Get a CLUE). Btw, can you forward this email to 5 of your friends? Microsoft will pay me $2000 per email.

I can hear Bush saying (assuming he wins reelection)

"Hey, what a great idea!"

That way he can expand the military and blame the Democrats, and claim "bipartisianship"

Promoting silly bills can come back to bite you.

THERE IS NOT GOING TO BE A FVCKING DRAFT!!!

This week's Army Times has an interview with a senior person from the Selective Service in which he states emphatically that there will be NO DRAFT!

When I get home, I will scan and/or retype the interview for all you morons that keep bringing this up time and again.

Wow, how many times can you beat a dead horse?

Latest Major Action: 2/3/2003 House committee/subcommittee actions. Status: Executive Comment Requested from DOD

OMG RUN a draft is imminent! It's so imminent in fact that the Congress hasn't done anything major to this bill since FEBRUARY 2nd 2003. Here, let me help you beat the dead horse. TWO THOUSAND AND THREE... oh, and those are years.

Why all of a sudden do I keep seeing people bringing this up.
It's been around for a while. Oh, wait, it's getting close to election time...

Blame Bush....

Okay, can you read? You even posted the link....

Who?s the sponsor?
Rangel.
Democrat from NY. He HATES Bush. He's said some very nasty things about Bush.
He?s the one who started this. So how can you blame Bush?

Looks like a lot of you fell into the trap. You blame bush, because you don't pay attention. That?s exactly why he started this bill. He assumed (and evidently correctly) that many people would blame it on Bush.

The politicians want to reinstate the draft, the Pentagon doesn't and doesn't think it's necessary, the special interests will give Washington all hell, and dozens of students will be arrested in protests.

Why don't they just drop the topic and save us all a lot of time, money, and stress?
