If you read carefully you'll see that it's only if the SP1 is actually included on the CD.. you know how recent releases of Win2K include SP2 on them built in - or "slipstreamed"
If you upgrade your existing installation that won't happen, as far as I can tell.
Also according to skyclad1uhm1 it only knocks off the reg codes starting with FKCGW or whatever from Devilsown

all of us, not saying me *cough*, have an illegal copy of windows xp pro...................

MrDudeMan, I don't have any illegal copies of XP Pro; that being said if you built 5 different systems using the same copy of XP for a client, then yes they should be able to sue you if MS want to sue them.

If your computers are connected to the internet they will automatically connect to a MS server. If your product IDs are deemed invalid your systems will become inoperable. Nothing more.

If your machines are not connected to the internet nothing will happen.

I hope that made sense.

Well, I use Windows ME that I bought about two years ago, so I don't worry. Soon will prolly upgrade to XP Home. I don't think I need the Pro edition, it's more expensive and useless for me. As for the illegal stuff...

have put xp pro on like 5 computers...are they going to call me one day and be like "Microsoft just called me and they want to sue me or some $hit. so, im going to sue you instead!"

Illegal sucks. I heard it on the TV that the illegal software police starts to take interest in guys who operate with illegal programs. Since Windows is comparably cheap, I don't see why anyone would want to pirate it. Why? Windows lasts for 3 or even 4 years. Can't you pay $100 in 4 years?

No, I don't think so. Apparently MS is going to kill ALL corperate keys in this patch, legit corp. customers will get new keys.

If you can't pay the cost don't install the operating system. You also can't afford cars, do you go steal them as well? You have NO need for XP, if you installed it illegally, if you sold it on systems illegally then you deserve to be punished. Waaa for you. Deal with it.

You don't wanna pay for an OS? Use linux, don't steal windows.

I've had to reactivate MS Office once & reinstall XP 3 times now, (massive system changes, HD failures, etc) one of the folks who reactivated for me was a royal pain in the a$$, the other 2 were nice.

What pisses me off the most, is the MS employee treated me like a freaking criminal for reactivating, and I actually have 3 legitimate copies for my 3 XP PC's.

Not saying you should steal Windows, but MS will have a hell of a time sueing everyone who has ever pirated Windows. It is much easier for them to just prevent pirated copies from running and then most of the people who pirate will go out and buy real copies.
