Received a $64 credit card payment from some eBay'er. Unfortunately, you cannot accept CC payments if you have a Personal account. Getting money from eBay'ers can be a royal PITA so instead of denying the payment and waiting for a MO, I upgraded. Blah. No more free Internet.

Since paypal is getting swallowed by eBay I figure they'll get rid of the Personal account anyway so there's no need to put off the inevitable.

Bah. Don't accept credit-card payments in your auctions. I take them in mine, but i now refuse to accept payments from anyone unless they are verified.

Link your PP account to a separate checking acct...

You could have just left the payment unclaimed, told the buyer to forward a MO and then cancel it afterwards.

I figure I've denied around $15,000 in CC payments over the year because people cant read.

Can you go back to a personal account after upgrading to a premier account? I upgraded because some of the auction winners started whining because they cant follow simple directions.

Fees: Listing, not refundable if your winning bidder is a moron and dosent pay you. Bend over and kiss your bucks goodbye.

Final value fee:

$0 - $25 5.25% of the closing value ($1.31)
$25 - $1,000 5.25% of the initial $25 ($1.31),
plus 2.75% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 to $1,000)
Over $1,000 5.25% of the initial $25 ($1.31),
plus 2.75% of the initial $25 - $1000 ($26.81),
plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($1000.01 - closing value)

Think this way. $300 item. $1.31 for first $25 plus $7.56, total of $8.87.

Hidden fees? LOL. You're funny. They rip off sellers daily because they cant enforce their own "legally binding" polices.

I sell everything. Mostly computer stuff.

Damnit Ameesh, I gave you your fix...shut...up.

I'm having so much trouble getting this girl to understand my "terms and conditions." I specifically stated that I take no credit cards and only direct transfers from the bank account. Here's the email that I got from her.....

Email #3: "Well this is VERY frustrating. I have to wait atleast 3 business days to confirm my checking account on PayPal, I have never had anyone accept PayPal but not credit card?? When I originally signed up that was all that was available. Would it be possible to pay the fee you would incur to save myself yet another week? I had hoped by paying within hours of the auction ending I would ensure quick delivery of product. Please advise."

Email #2: "just corrected my email address on ebay account so you should be able to use any of the prompts on the auction page to reach me now. I did set up payment through pay pal yesterday, but it still shows unclaimed. I emailed you yesterday to advise the "credit card" is actually a debit card that pulls directly off of my checking account. Please advise."

Email #1: "my funds at paypal are still unclaimed, is there a problem?"

I actually was trying to do her a favor by accepting credit cards for one time. She now complains that it takes 3 days to get her address verified blah blah blah. What is she talking about when she said there was no personal account when it was first available. Wasn't it like $20/month to accept credit cards at first? PsychoAndy I know you know alot about eBay/PayPal...I know I will get a quick response!

Besides getting a plane ticket and hitting them upside the head with a 2 by 4 theres not much you can do if they've already had a complete cererbral lobotomy.

"Credit Card" payments are a misnomer. If it bears the logo of Visa/MC international, Amex, or Discover its subject to fees. Without exception. Your moron, excuse me...."winning bidder' planned on making a bank transfer thru her debit card. Dosent work that way. Needs to be debited directly from a bank account. You cant use an EFT/ACH debit on an instrument where the card brand gets up to 4% off the top.

Wow.. You must not do much selling on Ebay. I had to upgrade to a Premier account when I started selling on Ebay. It isn't only the fact that you can't accept credit cards with a personal account, you cannot send or receive more than $100 in a month with PayPal either.

If you want to keep it free for most stuff, what would keep you from creating another PayPal account?

In order to accept credit cards on PayPal, you must become a Premier Member. It doesn't cost you anything other than you will now be charged a percentage of the total amount received whenever you use PayPal (from a PayPal account or credit card).

I'm not pleased with PayPal, but it's almost a necessity if you want to sell on Ebay. Just make sure that if you take a payment via credit card on PayPal, you make sure that the shipping address is PayPal Confirmed. This means that the billing address (where they receive their monthly credit card statements) and shipping address matches. If they do not have a Confirmed PayPal address, you will not be covered in the event of a chargeback on the credit card (stolen card, default on cc, etc..).

Another thing that you can specify from your buyers is that they have a Verified account. This means that the person has linked a bank account with PayPal. I usually ask for Verified PayPal Accounts and Confirmed Shipping addresses for PayPal if it's a big ticket item.
