My main point of contention would be that the two threads aren't really comparable...Dhinese/Japanese are ethnicities, while black is a race. Now if you'd said Colombians vs. Mexicans, or Nigerians vs. Ethiopians, then it'd be fine.

nothing he said was even racist.....i mean if i created a thread that said "redheads vs. burnettes, which are better" i guess i would be branded a racist as i am comparing 2 types of people:disgust:

Where exactly in my reply did I mention that this thread was in any way racist? I was simply saying that while I recognized the OP's (possible) intention of attempting to mirror the Chinese/Japanese poll, he made a fundamental error in the type of comparison chosen (i.e. comparing a race to an ethnicity rather than race to race or, as in the original thread, ethnicity to ethnicity).

So African American (often referred to as blacks by americans) isn't an ethnicity?

I would say it's more race than ethnicity, especially based on the components to be judged in the OP. It'd be like asking to compare Hispanics to Italians.

Edit: to clarify using your example, African American would be more along the lines of an ethnicity than would black; the two terms are not necessarily always synonymous. "Black" is too broad a category to be compared to an ethnic group such as Mexicans or Mexican-Americans.

To well to be fair, I think most people pictured African Americans when they saw the thread title.

Possibly, and I see your point, but the first thought that popped into my head--largely because of the Chinese/Japanese thread--was pretty much all of Africa.

African American vs. Mexican American would indeed be a fair comparison, though; even moreso than AA vs. Mexican, simply because the latter also have an entire country and a much longer history.

Actually the correct comparison would be African Americans vs. Hispanic Americans. That being said these race threads are completely retarded and nothing more than flame bait.

I have quite a few "black" friends who aren't african american. They are Dominican and Nicaraguan.

So yes, I agree that the thread title should be reworded just for clarifications sake, but i don't think it takes a genius to realize what he means when he says "blacks" and means african americans and by "mexicans" he means mexican americans.

Reminds me of that line when Peter Griffin and his neighbor friends are stuck on the island and they are playing the game "Which would you rather be..." The first one was "blind or a midget". I can't remember what the second one was.
