blackout....lost memory...etc while drinking (beer/alcohol)

Before it gets out of control I just want to say that I am asking a serious question and I'm not just posting a "look how much I like to drink" or "I'm a raging alcoholic" thread.

I never used to have this but over the past 2 years or so if I drink a lot of alcohol I have 3 major things happen:
1. I pretty much blackout (memory-wise) but my body is able to function, almost on autopilot, for a while, sometimes for 2-3 hours. Like I won't really be awake (at least i can't remember being awake) but my body continues to walk/run/jump/talk like normal.

2. I forget a lot of stuff, especially the last things I say/do before I fall asleep for the night

3. I get horrible headaches/hangovers. Now I've always got them when I drank but they seem to be worse over the last couple of years (or it is just me getting wussier). It just seems now that my temples and the base of my neck really hurt when I drink a lot.

Does anyone else have this or have you had experiences like this? Any information I could check out or any advice (other than "stop drinking" b/c I already stopped drinking a lot, in fact I rarely drink anymore).

LOL no idea, the only time i had a 'blackout' was when i did too many valiums.

But if you've already stopped drinking, why worry about it? Seems to me like your body just can't handle alcohol too well.

just something that happens to some people and not others, I have never blacked out by drinking but have a hand full of friends that almost every time out drinking, black out before the night ends, if I were to mention something to them about an event the night before in the later hours they cannot remember at all.

i have never blacked out or been out of control while drunk.
i usually puke and pass out well before anything like that happens.
i think when the hangovers STOP is when you need to wake up and realize there is a problem. or so ive heard.
alcoholism runs in my family, so i very rarely touch the stuff.

not tryinh to be a dick to you or anything, but you are an alchoholic. the only thing to do is to quit totally, or live with these symptoms when you do drink. a.a. has lots of information that could help you. going to a few meetings and talking to some of the people there might help you. word of warning though, you might have a problem with some of the ultra religious people at these meetings. but there is alot of good info available at these places.
good luck

how so?

everything he described is a symptom of alchoholism, he asked a serious question and i answered honestly.
this was being a dick how?

I don't think you came across as a dick at all. I think you stated your opinion and gave some good information.

That goes for eveyone else who has posted thus far too. Maybe since I've gotten a higher tolerance I am able to consume more beer. Therefore when I used to drink, I'd quit or pass out before I had too much beer. Now my body can take more beer, so I drink more, therefore making me lose some memories and therefore making my hangover worse.

Sorry, but I disagree. If he is only drinking occasionally and in a safe place while doing so, then I don;t consider that an alcoholic. BTW- AA is solidly based on a "higher power" or "god". It's not just about the ultra religious people that go there, it the backbone of AA completely.
Everyone I know that has entered AA replaced their previous religion with AA. It's like they belong to a cult religion. Oh, and smoking cigarettes is perfectly OK with AA... the most deadly vice in the world is acceptable but don't have a drink!

best way to keep this from happening is:

1. drink lots of water before you start drinking

2. eat in the middle of your drinking, and i mean heavy stuff like meat and cheese and bread

3. drink lots of water while you drink

4. drink lots of water before you go to bed

I had a friend who Joined AA, he called me up one night cuz he was on his way to the top of a mountain or something to meditate with his, what ever you call that guy that helps him out when he needs a drink, buddy. Hmmm, I haven't asked him how his AA treatment has been going lately. Better call him up and say hi.

Hmm. you aren't yet an alcoholic or anything, but you are binge drinking too much. Are you just drinking beer or spirits too?
Drinking alcohol is fine, and getting drunk is fine, but getting to the stage you describe is not pleasant and can be dangerous for you. The problem, of course, is that because alcohol takes a while to have an effect, if you are drinking at a fast pace, then by the time you've noticed you're at your limit, its too late, as you've already drunk past it, and are just waiting for the effect to catch up.

You don't *need* to drink that much, do you? It sounds you go drinking with your friends, you don't want to stop drinking while they're still drinking/ the night isn't over and you are just drinking too much, *too fast* for your body to take. So, if you want to avoid this, either - drink less, drink slower, or mix up your alcohol with the occasional soft drink or snack.
Or better yet, all three!

I said you are a dick b/c Staley didn't ask us if he was an alcoholic or not, but you had to give us your opinion anyway. He also mentioned that he rarely drinks anymore, so I don't see how you get off calling him an alcoholic.

The past two times that I've gone drinking with my friends kinda towards the end of the night I blacked out. I don't really recall moments.

I have always drank alot and have a high tolerance...many that know me joke about my handle which has nothing to do with alcohol directly.

I have never blacked out or had memory loss...

I have gotten majorly sick a few times and been hung over some times.

Your body changes and the way alcohol affects it changes.

A couple times I got sick from a few drinks and other times nothing happened after finishing off a whole case.
