Judging from the lack of response... it does seem like no one gives a @#%@#%.

Blackberry is looking for a buyer for the company and they haven't really gone out of their way to promote this phone.

The phone itself does look nice, though.

BlackBerry Ltd. BB.T -16.08% expects to report a hefty operating loss of nearly $1 billion in its fiscal second quarter due to an inventory buildup of unsold smartphones, and will be laying off 4,500 employees as its turnaround efforts continue to falter.

It said it sold just 3.7 million smartphones in the latest quarter. BlackBerry said most of those devices were older phones, not the newer ones on the BlackBerry 10 operating system.

BlackBerry is seeking to run a quick sales process in the hopes of finding a buyer for the company by November, people familiar with the matter said earlier this month.

BlackBerry, which once controlled more than half of the U.S. market for phones that handle email and Web-browsing, now has about a 3% market share, according to research firm IDC.

we've got quite a few vocal defenders of BB10 on here, curious to see their responses.

Same stuff. BB has cash, no debt, they "have" future devices that will totally sell well unlike the previous devices.

Guess that's why BB is laying off 40% of its workforce. Stock price slipped a bit today on that news.....almost $2 down.

BlackBerry said Friday that it will lay off 4,500 employees, or 40 percent of its global workforce, as it reports a nearly $1 billion second-quarter loss a week earlier than the results were expected.

BB is pretty well dead, if someone wants a mobile OS, they can either use or fork Android. BB's brand is too damaged to sell to anyone. The company has bee for sale for years now, with no takers, I suspect the next thing they'll do is shut down the phone division.

I've been reading that it makes the most sense to split the patent pool in two, because most of the other companies don't really want everything. BB still has strong patents with regards to security in the mobile age. Pity they weren't able to execute in modern times.

I remember being constantly flabbergasted that they did so well, because I thought all of the hardware pretty much sucked even during their heyday. However, a big push was from the corporate side, which of course helped them a lot.

BTW, in the last quarter the bulk of their sales were NOT using their latest OS. They sold a few million devices, but mostly BB7. So basically some companies unwilling to change are hanging onto legacy devices.

It was also interesting to see the change at my workplace. My workplace only supported BB, but nobody wanted the old BB devices, so the staff all just started buying iPhones with their own money and using them instead. It was so widespread that that my workplace relented and started supporting iOS, and then the same thing happened with Android a little while later. Now at my workplace, BB is pretty uncommon.

BB has a nice collection of patents though, useful for defense in the modern tech industry. Any potential buyers may be waiting for BB to enter bankruptcy to try scoop up the patents in a government mandated auction for uber cheap.

i just got a z10 on ebay and activated it on verizon. So far is been great and I have to say the UI is refreshing compared to iphone and android. I'm not one who uses apps beyond things for communication like phone, text, whatsapp and occasionally camera. Works fantastically and the keyboard is fantastic.

Its a shame because I live where RIM is headquartered and know a few people that work for them. I gave up my blackberry 9700 when I dropped it 14 ft onto concrete and it still worked, but not very well. The biggest shame imo, is that Blackberry hires a lot of graduates from the local uuniversities.

Its too bad they put themselves in this fate. It started with the Playbook haha.

I still can't believe Blackberry released a tablet that couldn't do email.

At this point, I think Blackberry should drop the OS, switch to Android + some custom bits (like the keyboard) and their security/email magic built in.

I think a lot of companies and even some people who would go for that. As of now, BB is dead. Even my most diehard BB friends have switched to iOS or Android.

the z10 is a solid device on its own right without android or ios. App selection however is lackluster.

Yeah, that was the moment I KNEW they were dead. We all suspected they were dead, but that just proved it.

Force of habit to say RIM.

I wonder what they'll do with all those unsold BB10s. I'd consider buying one for $99.

BBRY has been sold for $4.7 billion, or 9 bucks a share.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/repo...llion-deal-to-buy-blackberry/article14470689/

Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. has put together an equity consortium that is seeking to take BlackBerry Ltd. private for $9 (U.S.) a share, a deal valued at about $4.7-billion.

BlackBerry is giving the group six weeks to conduct due diligence, with a final agreement expected by Nov. 4. BlackBerry is able to look for alternative offers in the meantime, but the Fairfax group has a right to match them. Fairfax’s equity partners want to remain anonymous until the due diligence is completed.

Faster than expected. Is that a good deal for blackberry? Their stock price is taking a beating so it looks like it.

The $9 offer is right in the ballpark. In fact, it's higher than the $8 and change at which BBRY is currently.

That suggests to me they either knew in advance of the huge write down coming (which sounds like a no-no) and/or they finalized this deal on the weekend.
