Are you that confident that Android tablets will hit the market that quickly? So far we haven't seen a capable version of the OS (for tablets I mean).

Personally, I don't care who releases what. Once a good product comes out, I will buy it. We have an iPad, but it's really not what I was looking for and my wife has even lost interest in it. The lack of flash isn't a total showstopper, but it does happen to creep up at inopportune times.

This RIM tablet looks promising, but again, nothing's been out in the wild or independently reviewed. If it works like they say it does, and is reasonably priced (under $500 without a carrier lock/contract), I'll buy it.

Yep, I am pretty confident that there'll be some prety cool stuff coming out, keep in mind the rapid development cycle in Android phones, and extrapolate it to tablets.

It'll be a bit slower, I suspect, but it'll be a market shaker (I'm just frustrated that there's no "pure" play on Android, if you buy Google stock, you get everything from windfarms to autonomous car navigation, at least with Apple, they're focused on PC's and mobile devices)

I kind of wish Google would get the OS out, but also deliver a reference device. Something like the Nexus One was at its release - leading hardware, direct OS support, basically something to show off the tablet capability in the OS and have direct backing from Google.

Unlike a lot of "free" zealots, I do like at least having the option to buy a fully integrated device.

You're right, though. Google does have its hands in a large set of projects. To some degree, its part of their strategy to innovate in areas where they might have skin in the game. Windfarms make no sense at first, but Google consumes a lot of power. They also bought up a lot of dark fiber. And they got a license as an energy marketer. They probably don't want to be in the energy business, but all of that put together means they do have the freedom to drop more of their datacenter-in-a-container units right on top of power generation in remote areas. Right now it's a little bit overkill, but who knows.

The Playbook was announced Sept 27th.

So, we'll see these devices in pre release reviews in December DBZ?
