I considering getting a blackberry pearl 8120 through tmobil with the data and email plan - Can you freely surf the interent and post on forums and such? Can you buy things online like through ebay or newegg?

Sorry for noobish post - I am a bit behind the times when it comes to mobile technology

If the browser and OS are anything like my Curve, then no problem. I browse and post on AT all the time. Even buy stuff on eBay from time to time.

I would expect so I post on several forums using my LG Dare I would be disappointed if a more business centric phone would not work at least as well.

I have an 8800 and I've never been able to post on AT. Absolutely no idea why, but I get to the page, type out my message and post it, but it never shows up on the boards.

I've stopped trying.

You need to enable java popups and sessions.

Get opera mini.
So opera mini is alot better than then the BB browser? Can you actually zoom in small increments instead of just all the way?

The 'new' gen BB browsers on 4.5 are similar, but yeah Opera is in or out with zoom, but It also renders better and faster. The Bold Browser is probably on a par and what you'll get in the next, next gen will be better still.

I've Googled, but can't seem to find out exactly how to do that. Any help?

Thanks!

KT

Edit: Ok I figured out the Java thing, but sessions?

Just sent you a PM. Are you using Opera Mini or the internal browser?

Just a quick PSA: If you're looking to read and reply to threads here on AT, you can use the atforums.mobi website listed in my sig to view a stripped-down version of the forums. :)

Hey - thats pretty sweet - I will definately be using this when I get my BB Pearl 8120. I had a little trouble navigating forums when I tried out the 8120 at the tmobile store.

By the way the BB 8120 is free plus a $49.99 rebate on amazon right now (with a new plan of course  ). They're literally paying me to take a blackberry! My plan only ended up being $65 a month with unlimited e-mail and internet.

yeah, opera mini is just one of the many awesome apps you can download to the blackberry. along with viigo, gmail, google talk, facebook, beyond411, twitterberry, and my personal favorite, google maps. saved me money on a gps, still uses the same quality teleatlas maps the gps units use.

I love it. Basing your phone purchase decision on whether or not you can post on AT forums or now. LOL

Well, not Anandtech specifically - but I wouldn't have bought my BB if it didn't have "real" browsing and the abillity to post on forums. But anandtech is still where I spend most of my lurking/posting time! (Mostly at work)
