It's about having fun racing without getting wrapped up in winning and losing or breaking the bank. It's very rare to see an angry person at a Lemons event, basically everyone is having a good time. Teams cooperate, share parts, and hang out when were're not driving.

It's a great car-guy utopia. I can't think of another racing series where you've got a v6 MR2 racing a twin turbo crown victoria, a v8 volvo 850, a turbo chevette, a chiracco dressed up to look like the delorean from back to the future, a suzuki X90 with a camper body on it, a vintage BMW 2002, and a porsche 944 covered in macroscopic pictures of boobs.

Other than the car cost, the cost of the event seems much more than any I have heard. You need to pay $500 entry plus $100 per driver with a minimum of 4-6 required. Sure it's a charitable cause, but it's a pricey race.

Also they are allowed to buy your car out from under you at $500.

Cite your source for 14-25 hours of in-traffic track time for less than 500/car and 100/driver. I bet it doesn't exist.

No cars have been bought out in recent years, as any who is involved with Lemons knows. Cheater cars are simply assessed an stupid amount of penalty laps.

...because racing cars isn't exactly inexpensive? But that is more than reasonable for a fun race weekend.

They can buy the car out to prevent people, like yourself, from showing up with obviously >>>>>$500 cars with crap rattlecan jobs and shit poured all over the engine bay from just demolishing anyone. If your car is sandbagging, they can teabag you by taking it after the race from you.

Jesus, what the f am I doing feeding him. :/

This isn't trolling so drop it bro.

I am very curious that this is truly a cost savings rather than an exercise in lolz. Have you even read the website? The whole thing is a joke and I am sure raced by those that do full track days in real cars as well.

My buddy has some guys from work who have an entrant in LeMons. The amount of work these guys have to put in on these cars to get them running, raceable, safe, and under $500 is astounding.

You're trolling, plain and simple.

No I am not, you are just another person jealous of me assuming I am trolling.

Again though, this very post of your's shows it's not really a cheap way to race...it's a major under taking.

My question is how is anyone serious about this when the very sponsers of the event make it look like everyone's a laughing stock.

What I think is amazing is how many here now suddenly know a guy or have been involved in this.

um, yup, uh huh, this is exactly it. yep. You win. good job. Heres your cookie.

The whole event is just meant to be fun. It can be a joke if you want it to be. Or it can be serious if you want it to be.

Black2NA - what special / interesting / recognizable thing are you going to do to the car? Are you covering it with boobs too?!

EDIT: on second thought, I think we have enough boob in this thread ^^

That's exactly it.

Edit: MS1 (the first car ModSquad built) has 11 or 12 races under its belt. About $6,000 invested in the car, cage, radios, fire suppression, seating, and general other bits of race prep she's well over 170 race hours with not a whole lot of fuss. One crash (and she's seen MANY) resulted in needing a new (used) engine and radiator, a total of $400 in parts. That's been the biggest expense other than the initial prep work. Mostly it's been spark plugs and oil changes.

Sweet, I completely forgot they were going to run a 2nd Lemons race at NHMS this year (watched the race in May, had a blast). I can't wait to see the final results of the car!

as the post earlier today i pulled the engine apart to check the headgasket while that had no visible defects

the head also looked clean well as far as HG goes the carbon build up looked normal. but number 3 looked a little weird (wet).

which lead to closer inspection of the block to were i found this

IMG_20120918_110536.jpg

a big crack to the water jacket which explains are overheating issues under high RPM and heavy load (race speed more or less)

which then leads to crap what do we do about the engine! checked junkyards a tested known good engine was about 350...hrmmm to costly some networking with people and a mass hunting of CL found this

1991 MR2 Non turbo stripped of most body panels but having a few good things we needed! 129k 5sfe!! managed to buy it For $275 😀 so win there game plan we "sold" the engine to MS2 for $100 and now the new parts car will be turned into another race car. chassis is good and it has eibach sportlines and KYB AGX springs and a set of 16X8 wheels. i have a bunch of spare parts we will be able to make somewhat a complete car with it YAY more projects X.X this car will also get some variety of engine swap most likely V6 but the idea of a 4G63 is up in the air also. but that is the current situation after i make more money i gotta work at my shop sometime! i will start pulling the engine from parts car to place into MS2

Very cool, guys! I came to this thread from a just beginning mod discussion. Let's just say a certain member may well never to this forum again. 😉

HMMMMMM. Yeah, that would explain it!

moar race cars!!!!!!!

did you guys hear that?

its nice and civil in this thread all of a sudden. I wonder what changed?

that race sounds fun.

we have a local track where you take junker cars and race. its all in good fun and the cars are crap. they have a few junk haulers to take them away if needed.

Now these aren't cars like the OP. these are junkers made safe to race and be done with (maybe 2-3 races). Very rarely will you get a good car someone has modded to do well. most are just something someone found for under a grand on CL>

I keep thinking of doing it but haven't found a good car yet. had one lined up but someone bought it for $100 more. yes the fucker raced it too! i knew the guy heh
