The sound effects are top notch and the gameplay is alright, but the PS2 cannot hadle this game. Evertime you get into a heavy firefight the game slows down and its like your fighting in slow motion. Thats not a feature, its just the game killing the PS2. For the people who only have a PS2 rent the game instead of buying it. I wish I wouldn't have bought it.

I have played it...and it runs fine 95% of the time when I'm playing. Sure, it will slow down for a few seconds BUT at least its feels more like slo-mo than choppy framerate.
Fun game though.

Yeah I got it today too. My brand new V14 Slim PS2 can't handle this game. It just gets slow. At least they made it look more like slow-mo than choppy though.

Holy crap you guys reminded me. I have to get this game, guess I'll rent it though. I was going to play this and then sell my PS2. I had no use for it but this game looked promising. Lets hope my ps2 can handle it

I was just looking at this game. Looks simply amazing for a last gen title. I thought for sure it was a 360 release when I watched some clips. Guess that doesn't mean much though if it runs like the ultimate shyt. Anyone played the Xbox version?

I got the game and I have to say its not bad at all. I actually have to say that the slow down you talk about honestly looks like a built in "bullet time" I noticed it happened sometimes when there was a lot going on and sometimes when two guys were shooting at me. I have to say that when it slows down It feels very natural.
As far as graphics not too impressed but it is a PS2 title and im sure because of all the added effects graphics had to be cut down.
As far as gameplay I have to say im satisfied thus far, I really hope this game does well and developers take the hint and start releasing more physics based games. I've said in recent posts that graphics are where they should be for games and the focus should be real physics. People need to start demanding this more so that devolpers see the want.

ps. I really wish they would do this game on the PC, Its got a lot of promise and the hardware restraints on the PS2 kill it from being a total kick axx game

On the Xbox it looked and ran quite well. The biggest problem IMO was that it had no story whatsoever and just started you off on some random mission. A decent game but nothing spectacular like it was hyped up to be.

Agreed. I don't think you can manually save your spot at all.

I picked it up for XBOX and it runs great. I'm actually very impressed they could pull off such a game using 5+ year old hardware at this point, a 360 version would be phenominal.

Personally, I thought BLACK sucked...

Waste of money. They were going on and on about how everything was destructable, etc... I felt like I was in Duke3D again when people made maps that had exploding walls and stuff... totally scripted, and very predictable...

The one thing about the controls is that they are too slow for my own good. Used to playing BF2 and to turn around is too much work.
The graphics like I said earlier arent the best but they shine in a fire fight. I would have to say that this game has the best effects I've seen. The smoke looks realistic and when being shot at by an RPG the tail is awesome.
The farther I get into the game the better the gameplay gets. Shotgunning someone through a wall has to be a classic moment.
If anyone has a console I would pick this game up. Dont look for an epic story but the gameplay is def something you don't want to miss.

Imagine this thing on the PC or 360.

Black will not be backwards compatible in the foreseeable future.

Black 2 is going to be a 360 title though.

I wonder if you can play the XBOX version on a 360. It might get even better fps.

M4H:How did you hear that there was going to be a Black 2?

You can't, I already said that. And MS has no plans to put it, or any of the other Criteron games (Burnout), on the compatibility list. :(

Edit - As of the 29-Mar-2006 Live update, BLACK is playable on the 360. :D

Alex Ward (Creative Director, Criterion) admitted that they're going to make a sequel, but it isn't going to show for at least two years.

I played it for the Xbox and didn't think it was anything great. Physics weren't that great, nothing near Half-Life 2. The sound was good. I would maybe rent it, definitely not a buy.

I played it on my roommates Xbox. It didn't have any framerate problems that I could tell. I was deffinately expecting a lot more from the game. The "destructable" enviroments aren't near as destructable as one would hope. In fact, you can hardly destroy them much at all, it just has a lot of particle effects so it looks like a lot of debrees.

Gameplay is alright, for a console. It's funny to me how blind console FPS players are to the beauty and amount of control with a mouse and keyboard. In black it's like cold molasses trying to look around... oh and aiming? forget about it. I think that's why they give you so much ammo through out the game, becuase aiming is too frustrating. Once you play some FPS's on the comp there really is no going back... and Black is no exception.

You also got to remeber that the farther you get the more destructible it gets. Esp in asylum. As far as physics the bodies flying around might not be as good as the engine in half life 2 but black certainly does have the most destructible enviroment but like I said you have to actually get past about the first two levels to start seeing that more.
