I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread made on this movie since the opening (not that old long thread with only one review)

I just got back from it and I thought it was pretty good. I didn't know anything about the movie other than that it got good reviews. I almost thought about walking out of the movie theatre because I thought it was starting to get too intense at times, almost worse than pure horror films.

very good film. aronofsky started working on it while editing "requiem for a dream". Thats an amazing amount of time to be working on a project. I highly recommend both that and a movie called "pi".

The only thread on the film here is about girls kissing and that does it a disservice.

It is a masterpiece of American cinema. Love that it was shot on film. The sound design was superb and sublime. Ryder was the only thing that pulled me out of the film a bit.

Awesome movie, not that it's not predictable, but the level of performance and inherent darkness to the movie is just... awesome.

Yeah just saw it recently. Good movie but it's really out there. It's slow at first and predictable in the end but still leaves a lot to debate over in the middle.

Haven't seen it yet, but, that's mostly because I'm gonna attempt to wait for Bluray (the amount of time and money I put into my home theater ... I think I can wait for bluray... hehehe.)

That said, in the movie review thread, there were a handful of reviews, mostly in the 7.5-9.5 out of 10 range...

I LOVE Requiem For a Dream, it is without a doubt one of my all time favorites. I also very much like Pi. I thought the Wrestler was great, and, I even liked the Fountain. I also liked the story for the movie "Below" which Aranovsky co-wrote. So, I can admit that waiting for Bluray is getting difficult.

Good movie, but some of the scenes were a bit too much for me. Expect screaming.

no screams in the theater when I saw it- just a couple "jump" spots- nothing too bad.

Overall I liked it- not quite on the level of Requiem for me

I loved requiem and Pi. Am def going to go see this sometime this week.

loved 'requiem', really liked 'fountain', didn't care for 'pi'... maybe i was too young to fully understand it, but i didn't get it and it was very boring to me. it didn't hold my interest.

i really want to see 'black swan'

few people from work i have heard say natalie portman deserves a nomination for it

I think so. The whole movie was kind of meh in terms of plot, but her acting was fantastic. And I'm not just talking about the self-love scene.

Just saw it earlier today, it wasn't what I was expecting and the film highly reminded me of Requiem for a Dream even before I realized it was by the same director. No other films give you that crazy intense feeling when the story hits the crescendo combined with the music. The plot kind of reminded me of Fight Club too, with all the self-derived delusions of the main character.

Haven't seen Pi or The Fountain yet, definitely have to watch them based on this thread.

this movie was excellent... WTF, but excellent... also predictable, but a lot of scenes weren't the "holy shit" parts were completely unexpected as well...

9.2/10

WOW......I mean parts were predictable, but then other parts of it that you THOUGHT were going to be predictable threw you for a loop. Amazing cinematography, great character development, good lesbian scenes, solid acting. REALLY intense movie. I'm still kind of rattled by it to be honest and I got home about an hour ago. One of the 10 best I've ever seen

9.5/10

I thought it was fantastic. Natalie's acting was absolutely wonderful, and the movie was fun/intense to watch and figure out, even if it wasn't all that hard to figure out.
