If you're interviewing (especially in IT), you should be wearing a suit, unless you're applying for a job in fast food service. Your dress is the first impression you give in an interview. If I were interviewing someone with a casual black shirt and red tie, I wouldn't consider him as a candidate.

It's not a "casual" black shirt. It's a long-sleeved black dress shirt.

Who said it was a casual black shirt? This was a long sleeved dress shirt, nothing flashy about it at all, just the same as a white or light blue shirt you would see a professional wear... just black. I also wore dress khaki pants and very nice shoes. I wasn't dressing up like some kind of freak trying to make a statement... the image in your head is all wrong.
