Well I've got one that I know about. Grand-father's brother on my father's side....first name Gerhardt. He never was in the US, so far as anyone ever knew. He lived in Germany, and before WWII he was a lawyer. During the war he was a party lawyer (wrong side). At the end of the war he escaped to S. America on a U-boat. He lived there till he died in his 80s. Amazing story that was told to me when I was too young to appreciate it fully. My family never talked about it at all....except for my grand-mother. One day I talked to her for a long time about family history. She told me she for years after the war, she would get strange phone calls asking if Gerhardt was home. Mind you no one outside the family knew about Gerhardt...and of course he had never been in the USA. She speculated it was the JDL trying to track down suspected "war criminals".

Well after the war, we heard nothing from that side of the family. I never learned how my grand-mother ever found out about Gerhardt's escape in the U-boat. I guess most people will never know about their "black sheep". Anybody else around here have any old family stories?

the "black sheep" in my family it my mother's sister.
she has had a lot of drug and alcohol problems and it is rumoured that she was a prostitute for some time in toronto.
she used to come to every family function very high then get really drunk and then cause some huge emotional scene wherein she gets angry and just leaves.
then we won't see her for a few years and then she will come back sober talking about how she is going to "get her son back" (her son lives with his father's grandparents because both his mum and his father could never take care of a child) and talking about her new job and such and for the next few years she will be fine and will start to lead a somewhat good life.

but then eventually she falls back into drugs and booze and i really don't think she is going to get better now. the last time i saw her was last newyears and she was so wasted she told my mum that she hated her and that she never loved her and then she went and tried to pick a fight with my uncles new wife, she was so out of control she had to leave before she hurt someone or herself.

right now i doubt i will ever see her again, but then again, i think that everytime this happens.

Well, now , My Great Grandfather was a Moonshiner.... Round-about the prohibition years, my greatgrandmother turned him in at a Tent Revival meeting... Gave like $75,000.00 (1920 Dollars) to the "preacher" and the cars they were running the 'shine in went somewhere as well.... Grandaddy , when he came out of the hills, was FURIOUS!;)

:D:disgust: He then chased her down the street with a .22 hollering "come back here woman, when I catch you I'm gonna kill you!" :Q;)
Suffice it to say he DIDN't kill her, they stayed married all their lives, raised a BUNCH of kids and well, If thats being the Black sheep. all I can say is........

Ba'aaaaa......:D

BTW, favorite childhood memory is him teaching me to shoot with that .22 by putting a Coke bottle cap on a tree across the yard (field) and NOT letting me (11 year old kid) have ANY Coca-Cola untill I plugged that Cap with the .22.
Some things stay with you in more ways than one. Did I say we're stubborn and singleminded???;)

We're all blacksheep, everyones f-cked up... ;)

My grandfather has told me some excellent WWII stories since he was stationed in Panama and Germany. He has a pretty big hatred for the French though. When they were on their way to Germany on a train, there was this Frenchman with a wheel barrow full of cognac. All the troops were trading their rations - cigarettes, candy bars. When the train pulled away and they went to drink, it was vinegar. Thats where a common hatred from France comes.

My other grandfather never talks about the war. His troop was almost wiped out. A landmine exploded killing all but him and one other guy. He's still got the shrapnel in his back. Was awarded the purple heart which incidentally he has 2. He was given one while in the hospital over seas. Then because of a mixup, he was given a second one when he came back to America...

Blue sheep, eh?

Must be the diet...

Mine are even worse. I was born black, tried to be made into black-and-blue, painted white (bleached, rather), tie-dyed, and now it's warn off into this nondescript sort of beige so that people look and wonder but never at length since I'm not black enough.

Such a screw up, I can't even be the proper black sheep. But if it's anyone, dat be me.

Cheers ! :)

my uncle & his wife.

they basically stole my grandparent's house & possessions & put them in a rest home, then left town & wouldn't tell us where my grandparents were (we eventually tracked down their burial sites).

i hope they're happy & sleep well wherever they are with all that money.

My great great great grandfather killed his 2 year old child and my great great grandmother escaped with the 10 month old. Spent a good portion of his life in an institute for the insane, according to my dad, the family geneologist.

My great great grandfather left a note on the kitchen table that said he was going for bread, he'd be back in two years. He was, and sent child support checks but no letters in the meantime. Upon his return he built a boat on the top of their house (a la Mary Poppins?)

My mom is the black sheep. She used a lot of drugs when she was pregnant with me, and is in jail for selling drugs. When her mother (who adopted me) died, she came to the funeral on a prison bus. I've never seen her before, as my uncle made sure that I got to the funeral after she left.

OH man, that sucks. Did her drug use affect your mental capacity though?

I don't think so. I had a really high IQ as a child. I was going to skip 7 years of school. I didn't, and instead moved to a gifted school in Texas. My grandmother (who I refer to as mom), got into a horrible accident with me (I was the passenger). I don't remember if I was hurt or not, but I haven't been the same since.

I do have a terrible memory though ;)

i'm a little uncertain about the start of this stroy, i'll have to check up on it.
My grandfather and his brother were born in germany ( i think). My grandfather immigrated to america, changing his name so people didn't think he was a german spy (he went on to become a major in the USAF in ww2). It turns out, my grandfathers dad (great grandfather then) was the editor for a russian communist newspaper. He moved to washington to support and encourage communism, but got deported. My grandfather is about as right wing as u can get, hates communism etc, so lets just say he doesn't have high opinions of his father ;)

i don't have any info really on this, but i am related to one of those people hung at the boston witch trials. Her name can be seen on the board that says all of the names, though i can't remember what it is :(

My auntis just messed up. VERY weird. a few of the stupid things she's done. When she got devorced from her husband, she refused to like sell the house and split the money. So the husband (i guess i could call him my uncle 'removed', but i have never met him so theres no point) did all he could do which was to get the sheriff
involved. This ultimetly ended up in her parents, my grandparents, having to help her out, and she still owes then like $40,000 to this day.
Once down in florida, she was staying with my grandparents, and she took her son (he messed up too) to target. He got caught shoplifting. Did my aunt tell anyone?? course not, her perfect familys reputation would be at risk. We didn't find out about this, until the next year my mom took this son to the target, and he got caught stealing AGAIN. so trying to steal a $6 necklace cost about $800 in the end......

my grandfather recetly recovered from colon cancer. Durin his stay at the hospital, this same aunt was down there bein a pain. She constantly complained tothe nurses etc etc. When the little beeper thing went off to say something needed to be changed, she complained about the nurses responce time
she often sends me garbage bags full of her sons old clothes. thanks marie

Black sheep?

That would probably be me. But my family is generally very kind to barnyard animals. :)
