HP DV2000 laptop -XP sp3. Black screen on powering on. NO beeps. After several attempts laptop started. Updated Nvidia driver and restarted. Worked OK for a few days. Same problem- again after several attempts worked OK. Now same problem- black screen.
 
This is a common/known issue. There was actually a class-action lawsuit about these sort of issues, but the window of opportunity for your claim ended in March? I believe.

Here is one way to fix it, though it's rather extreme - Link. It's actually being done to a DV2000 that was having the identical issue you're detailing.

Basically, you bake your chip back to life, either in an oven, or with a heat gun. The heat gun method is probably preferred.
