Black screen when adding sound card?

As the subject line says:
I am trying to install a sound card, a trusty Creative Labs AudigyLS and in ANY pci slot get a black screen upon boot up, no beep!
I deleted the onboard video drivers, went to Bios and disabled the realtek alc97...
In the farthest pci slot from the AGP slot I have a LAN card that works fine, but for some reason the sound card just doesn't want my PC to boot IN any slot...Any ideas? I did a search but found nothing that would help at this point.
