I think it's my fisrt post here, any way...
I've been having this problem for about half a year now. Sometimes when I turn on my computer, windows loads(98SE) and then I get a Black-Screen with a green line on top of the screen. The thing happens after the system completes the boot proces, loads the GUI and I can even see the log-on to network dialog and my wallpaper, but then the screen just goes black with a green line @ the resloution of my dekstop and I am still able to move the mouse cursor. It has been happeing to me with all the Detonator drivers that I had, even with the 22.80 and the 21.83(official). I really don't know what to do. What realy bugs me now is that games has started to do something similar:
In the middle of Midtown Madnnes 2 or Opr. FlashPoint or any other DIRECT X game I get a one colour screen(green or blue or someother colour it depends on the game). I really don't know what to do with this thing, please help me. System Spec:
AMD T-Bird 1300(not o/ced)
ABIT KT7-RAID(KT133 NOT a)
256MB PC133 Micron 2-2-2 7n/sec
Hercules 3D Prophet 2MX Dual-Diplay Reatil(Geforce 2MX)
Diamond MX300(Aureal Vortex 2) - PCI 2.
Adaptec 2940U2W - PCI 3.
Flyvideo 98 Capturing Card - PCI 4.
Realtek 8029 NIC - PCI 5.
US Robotics 56K ISA

Windows 98SE, Latest VIA 4in1, Detonator 21.83(currently), Latest HighPoint driver(for the IDE controller).

Thanks a head,

I had a problem similar to this, except for the green line. The problem was with the refresh rate. What I had to do was change the refresh rate at my desktop resolution from the adapter default to like 78 hz or something. Now it works fine. Otherwise, have you tried using a different video card? I had a problem with a faulty video card that would only give me vertical stripes of green and blue. Try out a friends video card or something. Or maybe its a heat issue? Sorry for the no definite answer, just a few ideas.

Tried all what you've just written...
Except for changing the video card.
My refresh rate is set to 85hz and my monitor can handle that, so as the manual says.

This may be caused by the Backup utility supplied with Windows 9x attempting to detect new tape devices on boot. You can fix it by deleting the files drvwppqt.vxd and drvwq117.vxd in the Windows\System\Iosubsys directory. If this helps, then search for the string 'TAPEDETECT' in your registry and delete any entries that exist. If you find this causes your tape drive to stop working, you'll have to reinstall Microsoft Backup. You can also simply uninstall Microsoft Backup if you don't use it. :)
