Black screen on boot

im pretty sure there has to be a person here that have heard of this or xp this kind of problem. The problem im facing is very random. Some days it wont do it at all, other days it will do it. There is no pattern. When i first turn on my system it goes through the usual POST just fine. However after the POST i just get a black/blank screen. Nothing response. There is no activity on the HD light. Sometimes i would leave it alone for about a minute but absolutely nothing happens. So im forced to press the restart button. Upon restarting the system tho, it boots just fine. Usual POST, then goes and boots xp (however i get the message on boot saying windows didn't load successfully or whatever and gives me choices to pick from, i just picked 'start windows normally') Does anyone have any idea on why this happens? Is this a hardware or software issue? Any suggestions? I scanned my system for viruses (using latest updates) but came up with nothing. Any info is appreciated, thx!
 
If it is intermittent it is hard to troubleshoot.

Until it fails more often it is hard....

I had a similar problem and mine turned out to a video card..
