Seriously, whether you like Obama or not, it is hard to believe he would have gone this far without actually having met the criteria outlined in the Constitution. If this issue had solid merit not only would just about every Republican in office be screaming, but many Democrats would be as well.
The problem, however, is apparently a statue in Hawaii lets you register a birth in the state, even if born outside the state, so long as you claimed residency to the state for a year prior to birth. A registration of birth isn't a legal document. There are also, as you all know, the questions of why there isnt a raised notary stamp on Obama's certificate (the black printed state seal on the top is just letterhead, not a stamp), why it isnt signed, why it is an obvious computer generated image and not a scan of an original file, why the image posted to his site is as 2D as can be (no folds, wrinkles, flaws), why a hex editor shows it was edited in Photoshop CS3, etc, etc blah blah blah.
A suit was filed against McCain for the same type of thing because he was born in Panama. In his case, however, his father was military and stationed there on a U.S. base, both parents were US citizens, and, even though he provided an actual birth certificate that originated in Panama, he was declared a natural-born citizen.
The burden of proof really lies in Obama's hands, as this whole thing could have died in a second if he just provided a real birth certificate. The Supreme Court will eventually have to see it.
