I'm surprised acemcmac hasn't figured out that if you become a regular, you don't get carded. If you keep going to different places, getting carded, and leaving bad tips, you're going to run out of places you can eat.

Pick a place you like, go there regularly, and you'll see they'll quit carding you. But pick a place you haven't screwed over with a 5% tip already so you can start with a clean slate.

I don't know if you read down to the part when acemcmac admits he still 20... which explains exactly why he should be carded everywhere he goes....

Hell I'm 20, and I don't get carded at the regular bars I go to, or when I get my servers at Applebees. Most of the servers at Applebees carded me, and at first didn't serve me. So regardless, I left them 30% tips.

Did this a couple of times and after awhile, tried ordering some drinks again. Lo and behold, I was being served. The 2 for 1 specials at Applebees have long since made up for it.

The difference between mine and ace's situation is I don't expect someone not to card me, and I don't punish a person when they do. It's called doing their job.

But if they happen to look the other way, hooray for me.

Oh, so youre a racist?
Nope, he's just call it like he sees it. Stigmas become associated with different ethnic groups based on some kind of real experience with that stigma, not just because someone made it up for fun.

When I was a waiter, I learned how to look at someone and figure out if they were a cheap tipper or not. I did this by just looking at them, looking at how they acted, and talking to them when they first came in to eat. If i assumed they would be a cheap tipper, I would give them crappy service. Basically, they would get their drinks, no refills, I would bring them their food, and I wouldnt be back to check on them until I brought them their check. It took about 4 months for me to realize that although you may give good service, some people are really just cheap a$$holes. While I was a waiter, there were probably decent tables that had to pay for the attitude I delevoped from cheap tables. Im sorry to those, but overall, I earned about $20 an hour, and I didnt waste any time on the poor tables. I complained at first about the cheap tables, but after judging people when they sat down and acting accordingly, I spent my time with the tables I knew I would get an appropriate tip from.

What are the indicators of a cheap tipper?

dont get me started on verbal tippers.

you know, the kind who go "wow, everything was amazing, your service was excellent, thank you so much, i never had an empty glass, my au jus was hot and you replaced it and it was even hotter"

then they leave $5 on $100.

My favorite bars even pour my coworkers and our drafts when they see the mustangs, vw's and bmw's roll into the parking lot so we don't have to wait.
 Does anyone else hear it? It was faint, but its getting louder. Yep, it sounds like....someone tooting their own horn

You'll really hate me. If you card me (and I don't give a crap what your restaraunt's policy is) Your tip automatically becomes a maximum of 5%. Happened to me last night at the nicest restaraunt in the whole town that my marina is in. 40$ entrees and I got carded. "Excuse me sir, do you have ID?" me: "yeah sure, back at the marina ON MY POWERBOAT" I know it's not your fault that I'm a full time system engineer, homeowner, a boat owner, I hold a bachelors degree and have a chip on my shoulder because I'm 20, but by bringing it up, all you're doing is pouring gasoline on a fire.

Don't like the gratuity system? Get a real job.

That said, unless you card me, I ususally tip 20-25%

Why would it even surprise you that a nicer restaurant, which propably gets it's best advertisement via word-of-mouth, would card everyone who even looks close to underage. Obviously it wouldn't want to pay the fine, but breaking the law would tarnish what is probably a very good reputation.

If you want a better chance at getting a drink at a restaurant, grow a beard and go to chilis. It always worked for me when I was under 21. 😉
